February 21, 2008 at 3:03 pm #30328Refreshing this page….
February 21, 2008 at 3:03 pm #30626Didn’t know if anyone was planning on going to Frisco…we hope to spend the weekend down there.
February 21, 2008 at 3:03 pm #30820how was that Virginia beach event?
I noticed in your profile that you have beading listed… 🙂
I’m just getting into beading….I just finished a odd count peyote stitch….I think I did ok…I might post a photo of it sometime today.
My next project is a Rosette..which I still have not figured out lol
February 21, 2008 at 3:03 pm #30825Virginia Beach dates have been changed to this weekend…same as Frisco. Have never attended, but, hear it is pretty big.
Most of my beading has to do with making necklaces, earrings for family and friends…have not really gotten into the small beading…now Spilleddi can do some kinda beading.
February 21, 2008 at 3:03 pm #30826oh cool….the virginia beach one sounds cool.
I started out with Pony beads…I made a medicine wheel necklace with the pony beads.
then I did my first thing with the smaller beads recently…..took me like a week to get one necklace/headband done with them lol
February 21, 2008 at 3:03 pm #31065Becky and I are just back home from Frisco. On a scale of 1 to 5, it was a 5+.
Well worth the 13 hours we spent on the road. We will be attending next year. All dancers are most welcome and, on intertribals, members of the audience can dance without regalia. It don’t get any better than this one was.
February 21, 2008 at 3:03 pm #31070That sounds really cool.
how many tribes showed up?
February 21, 2008 at 3:03 pm #31102You don’t really have “tribes” show up at pow wows. You have dancers that come to dance, drummers that come to drum….and the audience that comes to enjoy the dancing and the drumming.
If anyone is ever on the Outer Banks of NC, I recommend you take the time to stop in at Frisco and visit the Native American Museum….and Mr. Carl and his lovely wife….they are very hospitable. There are nature trails and lots of things to see…plus, the whole area is rich in history.
This was definitely one of those pow wows where you sit back on Monday and say……….WOW! The weather was fantastic…and the hosts were great….the drumming was outstanding….and you couldn’t have gathered a better group of dancers. Like dancing in your backyard and all your friends showing up….yep, this one will be on our list for next year with a footnote to stay over on Monday….it was a LONG drive home in the pouring rain.
Aho

February 21, 2008 at 3:03 pm #31113Becky,
There is a pow wow held in Tipton, PA (just north of Altoona, PA) each year in late July. If you would like information so it can be posted here I will get it to you. It is a 2-day event and has dance competions for all ages with prize money. Ezra Fields, Pawnee, is the Master of Ceremonies.

February 21, 2008 at 3:03 pm #31122Well people from various tribes show up….and dancers from various tribes show up…..thats what I meant 🙂 Alot of times they will name which tribe the dancers come from before they come out.
February 21, 2008 at 3:03 pm #31175It’s a terrific pow wow. I know Ezra well and he talks a lot about the traditions, the dances, and the dancers. It is a very well run event and very well attended. I think there were over 80 dancers from many different tribes. I will try to get more information on it.
February 21, 2008 at 3:03 pm #31237Here’s the link for the pictures of the Frisco pow wow.

February 21, 2008 at 3:03 pm #31239For the pow wows that I have attended, the only dancers whose tribe is announced are the ones holding the flags and eagle staff, then if there are chiefs from any tribes. The dancers are mainly announced as to their type of regalia…i.e. women’t traditional, women’s cloth, men’s traditional, men’s fancy.
