The reason I asked this is because I am the only person in my line to share this trait with my great-grandfather. Until I read that little article, I would have never assumed it was from my Riddles.
They eyes in my family were very light grayish blue. (Now mine have turned kind of hazel.) But I always thought they came from my Scott/Irish side as we have a story about one of my Scott/Irish ancestors who had ‘the most beautiful white gray’ eyes.”
My sons have brown eyes. And one has ‘black brown’ eyes. When he was a kid it was really hard to see when he was lying because his pupils blended into his iris. His eyes were just so beautiful.
I don’t know if this is realvent or not, but years ago I knew this man who’s Ojibway wife said that the grey eyes in her family came from a VIKING that had married into her family.
If this is true, and I don’t see why not then they had been passing down the oral history for about 900 years or more and the genetic trasit aswell.. The closest Viking population would be from the province of New Foundland, Canada. Who knows perhaps there was something similar amongst the NC Siouan peoples.! Would make for a great story!
Both my Collins line & my Mullins line have gray eyes that are prevalent. My Father, a Collins had black hair and gray eyes that at times looked blue, my Mother, a Mullins had auburn, brown hair and gray eyes, that were halo’d with charcoal and with gold flecks ………one of my oldest sister’s has the same eye color and 2 brothers are just gray/light blue. One sister has grey/blue hazel and then me & another brother have blue eyes.
HI Tom, 🙂 I love watching history channel and it seems to me that on one of the programs there was speculation about the Vikings coming as far west as America. Who knows? It could have happened. 🙂
