Hello,

I am researching my family in SE Ohio.

I have very little information, I was adopted at birth so have only a paper trail and no oral history.

I suspect Native American/African American mixed heritage in my family for a number of reasons. One being an ancestor listed as ‘colored’. Also some histories shared with me from others researching my family line.

I would really like to find out some more about the mixed race history of the Gallia County, Lawrence County, Meigs County Ohio area. Experts welcomed to email me!

Gallia county I know was a blended community and a site for the Underground RR. I have had trouble finding information on Native people who remained living there through the 1800s.

Surnames: White, Cooper, Halley/Holley, Wilcox (Wilcoxen).
