I am a bit burned out on my own genealogy so I’m gonna spend some time working on my husbands. This is all I know:
Hattie (his grandmother) was first married to a man named Roberts (who has not been seen or heard from in over 60 years) Hattie remarried a man by the man of Kelly. They lived in Wayne County, Missouri.
Hattie’s parents were Samuel and Sol Beard. Hattie was born in the early 1900’s maybe as late as 1915. It is told in the family that Sol Beard was full blood Cherokee we do not know who her parents were or anything on Samuel Beard either. On the census records in 1930 I believe it says Samuel and Sol Beard were born in Missouri.
The Keller family has stories of being Blackfoot.
Terry’s grandparents were Frank Keller and Fannie Husky.
We have alot of info on the Husky but nothing on the Keller’s.
Frank Keller was born in Tenn. in 1903 and passed on in 1967 in St. Louis, Missouri. On the 1930 census in Pemiq. County Missouri I found Frank living next door to a Robert Keller. I assume this is his father because of the ages of the men at that time his mother’s name was Anne.
This is all we know for certain on my husband’s family. He said when he was younger they had a picture of Sol, Hattie, his mother and his brother (4 generations) but the picture is gone now, he thinks it burned in the 1970’s along with their house. Everytime that picture comes up and he mentions it often he says with passion that his great grandmother Sol was a full blood Cherokee. Just looking at his family it’s very easy to believe too. His brother has black hair, real dark skin and sky blue eyes (imagine that). His father is the same way. Terry has brown hair, dark skin and smokey blue eyes. When I mention his eyes he says they are a Keller trait. If anyone can help track down these families I would appreciate it. Butler County Missouri which is right next to Wayne County is probably were the Bread can be found.

1850 census shows him in the household of James Beard, b.abt. 1816 Indiana, and Zarilda, b.abt. 1818 Ind. From the children’s ages, they moved from Ind to Mo between 1842 to 1845.
For what it may be worth as info to check, an online family tree covers the above informaton with Samuel listed as Henry D. ‘s son and Henry D. the son of James Beard:
James Beard

April 4, 2006 at 11:17 pm #20197Stepp is a Nottaway name…..I’m gonna check that line out. Thank you so much Bill. Did you find anything on the Kellers. They were sharecroppers so it might be difficult. My husband says his grandmother Hattie was very much ndn he believes Samuel Beard had to be part ndn cause Hattie appeared more than half. If he connects to the Collins and Stepp that would explain alot. I have seen the Wisdom name here on this forum also. If my husband is a Stepp descendent I think I’ll shout it from the rooftop LOL. What are the chances of 2 Nottoways finding each other down here in Alabama? LOL

April 4, 2006 at 11:17 pm #20198Bill,
I’ve been looking for Odell when i didn’t have any real luck in Zoe’s area of Missouri, I did a web search putting in Cherokee Odell. What I found was this; Afer Odell in 1900 listed in the census of the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma. The record states he was born in Missouri in 1861. His wife and children are listed with him. Wonder if he is a relative of our Zoe Odell? By the way Carter County is the county just south of Reynolds and west of Wayne…surprise surprise huh? When I showed Terry the marriage record you found he said that’s them.

April 4, 2006 at 11:17 pm #20199Looks like these Stapp/Stepp were not Nottoway but that’s ok….I’m thinking the Collins is Saponi though
April 4, 2006 at 11:17 pm #20204Bill,
It looks like the Trail of Tears went right through Reynolds County, Missouri. This was the Benge detachment. Looks like they went through that area in Dec, 1838 and early 1839. There are Odell on both the Western and Eastern Cherokee rolls. There is an Odell family in Wayne County in 1860 they came from Walker COunty GA. Chickamauga Township. Bill it’s important that we prove this connection for personal reasons can you help any further? Could you look up these Odell’s in Wayne County in the late 1800’s to see if Zoe connects somehow? Thanks
Linda

April 4, 2006 at 11:17 pm #22134Hey Bill,
I’ve been working on the Kellers since I got ancestry.com. Frank Keller and Fannie Huskey were my husbands grandparents. Frank Keller is the son of Robert Keller and his wife Ann. Robert Keller is the son of William Keller and Ann P of Knox Cty TN. William Keller is the son of Frank Keller b 1816 in Knox Cty TN and his wife Mary also from Knox Cty, TN. I don’t know who the parents of this Frank Keller are but the census records say his father was born in Maryland and his mother in Virginia. I did a check for Kellers in this timeframe and it appears they are all in Frederick Cty MD outside of Washington DC. However there are Kellers all over VA LOL needle in a haystack!! There are 7 possibilities for the parentage of the elder Frank Keller. I need to find some wills to see if I can figure it out. BTW William, Frank and David (which I find in Frederick Cty Md) are all still family names today. My husband had an uncle William and 2 of his brothers are Frank and David. Another odd thing is the Frank Keller b. 1816 in KNox Cty TN had $25,000 in real estate and $6450 in personnal property but his grandson ended up being a sharecropper what’s the deal there makes one wonder you know? I am thinking perhaps it was Robert b. 1873 in Knox Cty TN(who was the sharecropper)that married an ndn. My father-in-law if he didn’t have blue eyes could pass as a full blood. It’s like Robert left his family and moved west and never passed any info on to his children or grandchildren about his family. Is Knox cty in any way associated with the dispora of Saponi(Blackfoot) since this is the ID they have in their family?

April 4, 2006 at 11:17 pm #22139Knox County, Tn’s western border is the Clinch River and this is only a couple counties southwest of Hancock Co. but I don’t have a definite answer to your last question.
April 4, 2006 at 11:17 pm #22188Bill I found Robert Keller b. 1873 Knox Cty TN in 1900 with his wife Annie in Haywood Cty TN. Haywood is not far from Memphis which is probably where they crossed the river into Missouri sometime between 1909-1929. I found them in extreme southeast Missouri in 1930. All of the children were born in TN probably Haywood Cty. This family is like a bunch of grasshoppers they are hard to find. It looks like the Kellers of Frederick MD (which I believe are my husbands very early Kellers) came out of PA. These folks were German they settled an area right on the MD/VA border. Do you know of this German settlement? or is this the same one I have seen talked about here? It’s funny how family stories end up getting told…Terry(my husband) was told the Kellers were German/Blackfoot.
