Hi.
I have been researching my family tree and I have been trying to connect the Cherokee Indians to the Bentley side of my family. I was told that my grandfather Charles Williams Bentley he was either half or three quaters Cherokee. He was borned Nov. 11,1927 in Kentucky, where exactly I do not know. He married Dollie M. Tackett borned Dec. 24,1929 in Kentucky, and also do not know exact location. Charles’s father was Rooselvelt Bentley borned Nov 3,1901 in Pike County, Kentucky he married Bessie Norma Sowards borned March 10,1906 in Pike County, Kentucky. Dollie’s parents are Walter Dock Tackett borned July 10,1897 in Pike County, Kentucky he married Louise Bartley borned 1907 in Pike County, Kentucky. I was also told that I had Indian on the Thompson side of my family. My Family has told me that there is alot of Indian in all of my family’s sides, so I am just wanting to know how I would really try and get any of that information. All of my Grandparents have already past so it is very hard to find out any thing from them. The only things I have to go with is what they told me when I was young.

I have both volumes of Cherokee Roots & can look them up. Did they stay in Kentucky? Might be good if you can go backward one more generation.
I recognize the name Monteith. Are you (or your hub) Patawomeck?

Roosevelt Bentley’s father was Joseph and also went by Joe Bentley he was borned in 1861 in Pike County, Kentucky he married Sarah Elizabeth Potter borned 1876 do not know exactly where at. Walter Dock Tackett’s father was David Tackett borned March 4,1857 in Pike County, Kentucky he married Rebecca Garrett borned in Floyd County, Kentucky.
Struck out on the name Bentley, and did not see anything similar.
Found Tahquette family on Churchill (1909) and Guion Miller (1909). These are eastern. Annie, Emely, Frank Glen, John, and John alfred.
Western Dawes/Guion Miller roll (1898-1914) has a Sarah Tacket, then what looks like a Tackett family of Bert A., Maud P, and Walter E.
Might not be who you’re looking for, but it’s a place to start.
Also my husbands last name is Monteith. Do not know that. His family has never said that they have Indian in them. But I do know alot of his family history and have it all the way back to 1000 there are princes , kings and lords in it. I have a Lewis Tacquett borned 1676 France and died 1743 in Cedar Run, Fredrick County, Virginia he married Mary Sarah Spiller. His son was a John Moses and the name change to Tackett .
