Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Beverly Dickenson is my gggrandfather. His wife was Fanny Self who I have initiated another thread about.
Beverly (I don’t know what Native language it is but “Beverly” is derived from “Beaver”) was born in Washington County, Virginia – where NC and TN come together with VA – in 1819. D. 1907 in Elliott Co., KY where he and Fanny raised family.
Fanny was my “Indian Legend” – but today, I found this: http://books.
I had been considering Beverly as a white man, son of Archelius Dickenson – until this.
Now, I know not to trust the mere mention of Melungeon as a sure indication of anything … but this throws me for such a quick-loop that I’m not sure what to do next. Any ideas? Is this Saponi territory? Tsalagi? Shawnee? Other? I do not know the authors source for making the statement that Beverly was Melungeon – and don’t know what to make of his assumptions that he is Iberian or Jew – and do like the reference to the “Primitive Baptist” so I seek the help of you more experienced and informed folks.
