Does any one know any thing about a book written by Richard Haithcook The book is about the Saponis and in his book he list Saponi Indians that fought in the Rev.War Thomas Boling and Thomberry Boling. I would like to know how he determined that Thomas Boling was a Saponi Indian. Elsie Bolin
I have access to a copy and I will try to find your Bolin in there.
There is some old documentation about this name:
1742 — Eleven Saponi men were brought into court in Orange County Virginia. They were arrested for traditional burning, and slashing of woods, killing pigs for food, accused of shooting a weapon, at a Colonial named Strothers and threatening the life of William Harrison. The Orange County court ordered that the Indians be taken into custody by the sheriff until they gave peace bonds with security, and their guns be taken from them until they were ready to depart out of this colony, they having declared their intentions to depart within a week. The eleven Saponi men were: Maninassa, Captain Tom, Blind Tom, Foolish Zack, Little Zack, John Collins, Charles Griffin, Alexander Machartoon, John Bowling, Isaac, Harry and Tom.
I don’t know if the RevWar Bolins you mention trace definitively to this Bowling.
