Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Tagged: blackfoot, INDIAN WOODS
Looking for information on my 3rd great grandparents from NC. It appears we have multiple indigenous lines that originated down south but were displaced to Ellisburg NY then Canada before coming back to the United States a generation later. They identified as “blackfoot” as well as Cherokee. A recent DNA test shows my fathers line has a trace of Cherokee, but a stronger genetic relationship to Muscogee and Seminoles from their data base, as well as other cultures from North America said to be associated with the souan tribes of the Peidmont.
Looking for information on Catherine Breeze born in Edward NC around 1790-1800 and her husband Ira Presley of Asheville NC also born around 1790-1800. They migrated to Ellisburg NY and then Catherine and the children fled to Canada. We don’t know what happened to Ira Sr. Their children married into British allied Cherokees displaced during the revolution before moving to Michigan the next generation. I came across the term Tutelo Saponi in local mound research, the Harvard archeologist stating they were here originally before being driven south to the Peidmont. I beleive it’s possible we are also Tutelo Saponi by the Blackfoot identification they kept for generations. Some Muscogee-Creek relatives that know our admixure say we may possibly be Catawba. I will include our DNA results down that line as well as the research data from mound excavation. ANY HELP OR ADVICE OS WELCOME. THANKS IN ADVANCE.
