Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
I am new to Saponitown and am researching Collins family members who settled in early Lincoln, Cleveland, and Rutherford Counties in western North Carolina. William Collins’s daughter, Suzanne, married William Dobbins. Drury Dobbins, their son, was well known in the area. I am trying to connect other Collins in the area, including Jacob, Abraham, etc. Abraham was prominent as a Loyalist during the Revolutionary War. Some online sources say that these Collins originated in a New England state, but what I have found points to Chowan and Bertie Counties in North Carolina.
Welcome, BroadRiver, we had a member in the early days who has since passed on, Brenda Collins Dillon, who left us an article summarizing what she knew.
Try using our search button on the name Collins. We’ve certainly had more than a few Collins over the years. Searching on Google for ‘Saponitown Collins’ may find even more.
Hello. Since your Collins ancestors may originate in Chowan or Bertie Counties, I also recommend reading the work of this researcher named Justin Petrone who descends from Collins lines in the same and nearby areas of eastern North Carolina and Virginia.
