Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Chwe’n Julie,
My ggrandmother was Sarah Brown from Isle of Wight/Southhampton Counties, she was born in the 1860’s I think. Do you have any information on the Brown line among the Nottoway? She married John Shepherd.
Nyah-weh

It was told my husband that his grandmother was Blackfeet. It may have been his great-grandmother Cora Emeline Brown, born in Pompeii NY and moved twice in her childhood, ending up in Baldwin Kansas in early to mid 1800’s.
I will check names and dates and get back to the forum. Is there possibly a link?
The current chief of the Cheroenhaka Nottoway in Courtland, Va is Walter D Brown II. It is a core family name of the Southampton co, Va Nottoway
Dreaminghawk,
Thanks for the reply.
The corrected dates for the Browns are
Theodore Brown b. Pompeii, NY 8/12/1841,
moved to Lyons, WI before 1861,
married Jeanette Tucker,
moved to Baldwin, KS in 1870.
My son-in-law-to-be is definitely from an eastern Blackfoot line.
Turner is the name.
That would be interesting if my husbands grandmother Winter or great-grandmother Brown has Blackfoot lineage, too. My husbands’ conversations with his father about family history were intermitent, but he did mention this one item each time they talked.
