rosebud,
My grandmother, Allyne Vashtie Brown’s mother was Anna Stewart and her dad was Samuel Brown. Samuel’s family came from Brunswick County, Virgina. Samuel’s dad who was Samuel Sr married Ann Branham and she was Samuel jr’s mom. My mom’s has a Stewart line also, you will find that information in Rick’s books. However, Allyne Brown was my father’s mother and I really can’t find alot about them. I know they were all from Virgina and North Carolina. John Blackfeather and I were talking a few years ago and he and I have some blood connections, I really don’t recall who all in our family we were talkin about, but I already know that many of the folks I talk to on this site I may be related too!!!
My grandfather was Earl Jenkins and grandmother was Bessie Oxendine Butler and I recall alot of our people lived in and around Buffalo/Tonawanda NY and some in Canada. If you have information to share, I sure would appreciate it.
Thank You,
Tasheaka

March 14, 2002 at 8:07 pm #9454Greetings Linda and Forum Members,
Not been on the forum in a while, just stopped by and saw some “older” post on the Stewarts? Randy, I have Stewarts on both my dad’s line and my mom’s lines. Jenny Anna Dorina Stewart married Samuel Brown in the late 1890’s she was born here in Ohio in Highland County. Samuel was born in Greene County, Ohio. Samuel’s father was Samuel Brown Sr, married to Ann Branham, they came up here from Va. Samuel Sr was born in Brunswick County VA. I can share what I have with you, I need to pull the information for exact dates, etc. Have a picture of Anna Stewart in one of Rick Haithcocks books. My grandma, Allyne Brown was the image of her, sisters were Hazel, Fredrica, brothers were Lincoln & Virgil. Some of those pictures are also found in Haithcock’s books. I’ll see what more I can find, got some new information on family members will share later.
Many Blessings,
tasheaka

It looks as if your Samuel Brown Sr. of Greene Co., Ohio was married twice – the first wife dying before 1850. Samuel Brown Jr.’s mother was Elizabeth, b.abt. 1830 in Ireland and is on several census records that way. This is the same Samuel (Baptist Minister) who marr’d Anna D. Stewart on 20 May 1891 in Ross Co., Ohio; dau of Gibson & Mary Stewart who are on the 1870 Ross Co census as her parents.
Tying that in to other family that you have names for …..
1900 Highland Co., Ohio census, ED122 Madison Twp in Greenfield, p.229:
Brown, Samuel; Minister; Apr 1860; 40, m-9; Oh, Va, Ireland.
(ditto), Anna; wife; Nov 1870; 29, m-9, 5/5; Oh, Va, Va.
(ditto), Irwin; son; Feb 1892; 8; Oh.
(ditto), HAZEL; dau; Jun 1894; 5; Oh.
(ditto), VIRGIL; son; May 1896; 4; Oh.
(ditto), Stewart: son; May 1897; 3; Oh.
(ditto), Viola; dau; Dec 1899; 6 months; Oh.
The 1910 Highland Co census adds children Fredricka, b.abt. 1905; and Lillian, b.abt. 1908; and the 1920 Pickaway Co census adds “Allene”/(Allyne), b.abt. 1912.
Samuel Jr’s middle initial was either an “H” (indexed as “H”) or maybe a “K” on the 1870 Green Co Census, where he’s shown as 12, b.abt.1858, not in 1860.
His siblings were
William H., b.abt.1855
James Richard, b.abt.1856
Victoria, b.abt.1861
Laura A., b.abt. 1863
Lincoln F., b.abt.1866
Some (probably not all) of his siblings by Samuel Sr’s first wife are
Alexander (“Stel”), b.abt.1832 Oh.
Louisa, b.abt.1837
Silas G., b.abt. 1838
On the 1860 Greene Co Oh census for Ceasar Creek, Samuel Sr is 60, b.Va. (abt. 1800).
A Jane Brown, b.abt.1775 Va., lived next door to Samuel Sr in 1850 Green Co. Coincidentally or not, an Alexander Brown marr’d Jane Simmons, ward of Sterling Edmunds (Sur. Herbert Hill) on 26 Sept 1796 in Brunswick Co., Va.
