My name is Dennis William Butt. I was directed to this site by a distant cousin. I have a very complicated family history. I descend from the Green family about which Robert M. Green wrote the book: A Branch From the Green Tree, and the Butt family that intermarried with that Green family. I have more information about these ancestors than I know what to do with. However, I have some questions too, paramount among them is who were the parents of my paternal gr gr grandfather Bazil Butt (1797 -1854). Recently I had my DNA tested…25 markers….by FamilyTreeDNA. The results are posted there. The DNA test results indicate that my paternal line is British.
I was raised in a mixed family, my mother being French/German/Presbyterian. My father knew his paternal line was British, however, neither he nor his six borhers were baptized and he and his mother were Red to the marrow of thier bones. I know though that my father’s mother was at least mostly German so I’m sure she took her philosophy of life from her husband (my grandfather, Squire George Butt). I’ve searched and searched and searched for some kind of documentation that would give me at least some indication about which Red culture we belong to…many think it is Shawnee. I simply do not know. I adopted the Red philosophy and way of life before I knew I was doing it. I’ve always kept it quiet….there’s no point in making life any more complicated than it needs to be. I’m retired now though so it’s really no longer a problem.
I will appreciate any comments anyone may have about any of this.
