Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Hello everyone. It’s been a while since I last posted here. My quest at this time is information on the Ceasars of Mt Airy, NC. I actually have quite a bit of information on them, but my ultimate question is “of what race or racial mix were they, actually”. They are listed as mulatto (and one as black (Maston (1850)/Martin (1840) on the “Other Free Inhabitants” schedule of the 1850 federal census. (Maston/ Martin is same person.) I have the mid 1800s tax rolls for NC (listed by county) for all non-whites, and Surry County shows no names at all. Martin was from VA, but practically all the others listed were from NC. There are only solitary records for Ceasars (that I have found) in VA pre-1840, and none in NC. Does anyone have any info or an idea about these people.
