PowhatanBlood….my grandmother tells me that the “Charles City” indians loved my great-grandmother Mary Elizabeth KEY….who was Pamunkey (and married a Mattaponi BRAXTON). They would come down to their house and do some trading. I always wondered why they had such close ties with a Pamunkey descended woman! Now I know! Also, are you related to Chief Miles?
Greydove….do you have any Redmonds from the King & Queen VA area?
October 10, 2008 at 1:25 am #33442Hi Roni, Well, my Redmonds were in the Stafford Va area, so that is real close to King & Queen VA areas. Susannah Redmond was Indian from both her parents. Her father ties back to the Patawomecks and her mother ties back to the Powhatan. Susannah was born 1703, d 1752 Stafford VA. She was my 8th GreatGrandmother Greydove
October 10, 2008 at 1:25 am #33448I met Linda at the last Chickahominy Pow-Wow and you can’t swing a dead possum around without hitting an Adkins. And not all of them are related. So I guess if one line doesn’t fall through, then search another one from the area.

Very Interesting, I bet they were closely related…I don’t know much about my Miles line to be honest…I can’t trace any farther back then my great grandfather Harris Miles that married a Minor Bland…
October 10, 2008 at 1:25 am #33486PowhatanBlood, I’ll ask my aunt or cousin if she knows Chief Miles’ people…..if your people were from King William Co. VA or King & Queen Co. VA, then most likely so.
October 10, 2008 at 1:25 am #33489Appreciate it…I’ve wondered if there’s any relation…My Miles family is from Charles City but thats not far at all…
October 10, 2008 at 1:25 am #33593Have a lot of information on our Miles line. I found that there is a connection between the Charles City Co. Miles, listed as Free Persons of Color and the King Wm. Co. Pamunkey Miles shown as Indian.
Many don’t know it, but the Chickahominy had a reservation in upper King Wm. Co. ca. 1701 near Aylett. They sold their land and most if not all went back to Charles City Co.

Little Berry Adkins was my great grandfather…My maiden name is Adkins and I am from the Chickahominy tribe….The Adkins line is a huge family and yes there are some Pamunkey lineage in it….If you want to know more about Virginia Indians history look up Walter Plecker and you will find out why documents were tampered with as to our history and our fight to get federal recognition.
