Hello all,
I was driving on Hwy 58 near Courtland this weekend and I noticed the sign is up pointing the way to the 5th Annual Cheroenhaka (Nottoway) Pow Wow. It is scheduled for July 22, 23. My wife and I are planning to attend and we were wondering if anyone on the forum is planning to go. If so, we would love to meet you.
Thanks,
Dan

I know what you mean. I had been planning to attent the Occaneechi Pow Wow but I had a conflict and couldn’t make it. If you can go let me know.

July 3, 2006 at 12:44 am #22150Ken and I have it on our agenda to go. It’s not too far away from our home and a good getaway. We usually meet up with several from the forum while we are there.
July 3, 2006 at 12:44 am #22165Great! My wife and I look forward to meeting you. How do you identify members of the forum? I am guessing you guys have a system by now.
Also, Chief Red Hawk of the Cheroenhaka was on one of the local TV stations this week. You can see it at http://wavy.com/Global/SearchResults.asp?qu=red+hawk but I don’t know how long it will stay on the site.
Thanks,
Dan
July 3, 2006 at 12:44 am #22189Well, me and my old goat are pretty recognizable…actually, we usually meet up with Linda and meet the others…well, some are recognized by their avitars, too. We will probably have our Flat River Gravefinders hats on if the sun is as bad this year as it was last year.
I heard the interview with Walt…my computer wouldn’t download the video. I love the little city of Courtland…we always stay at the local motel and eat at the local places. And also looking forward to the pow wow in Suffolk Aug. 19th.
July 3, 2006 at 12:44 am #22350Well, we are packing up and heading out in a couple of hours…looking forward to a weekend in Courtland/Franklin. Hope to see some of you there…Becky
July 3, 2006 at 12:44 am #22371Well, I must say this weekend was a fantastic pow wow!! Linda, sorry you missed it. Jade, was glad to see you again. The weather cooperated and the spirits were high. We got to meet new people, hug the old friends and break bread with them, and plan our next getaway.
July 3, 2006 at 12:44 am #22372I’m so sorry I missed it. I just wasn’t up to it. I heard it was a great pow wow. My daughter went and had a great time.
July 3, 2006 at 12:44 am #22373Hope you are feeling better now….maybe you can make the Nansemond? We hope to attend that one. We did see that some of your kids made it to the pow wow. Lone Wolf, did you make it to the pow wow? I did get to meet Jade’s brother and cousin….a couple of fun guys.
July 3, 2006 at 12:44 am #22390The Pow wow was good…my first time there, I was the only male fancy dancer…that was alright, I had a blast!
July 3, 2006 at 12:44 am #22415Yeah, I seem to remember seeing you about midafternoon on Sunday. Did you get there in time to see the smokedancers? There were 3 of them. That was interesting…I had not seen them before. I think one of their names was Mike Dunn….and his son. It was a good pow wow…and the weather held out, for which I am very grateful. Are you going to Nansemond?
July 3, 2006 at 12:44 am #22419Becky,
I’m sorry I didn’t answer sooner but the monitor on my p.c. went out.
My wife and I did make it to the Pow Wow. We met with some of our old friends and we really enjoyed being there. It was hot but it could have been alot worse. Sorry we missed you all.

Becky and I sit in chairs near the east gate with the couple wearing cowboy hats. …. what time we weren’t socializing with some of the vendors and dancers. Was there anything distinctive about your party that we might remember?
July 3, 2006 at 12:44 am #22429I was there Sat/Sun…I drum with EB; I may make it to Nansemond, but I got orders to go to Iraq. Nottoway may have been my last Powwow before I leave
