Found a book called “Powhatan’s World and Colonial Virginia: A Conflict of Cultures” by Frederic W. Gleach Lincoln University of Nebraska Press, 1997.
On page 96 it speaks about how the Indians killed these priests as an act of self sacrifice keeping the accrutiments of them. I am wondering if this source would actually explain the story of some Indians being found praying at noon etc. and wearing crosses that have been written about in the Melungeon material?
In a book called ” The Tepehuan Revolt of 1616″ by Charlotte M Gradie (reference page 129){my note here; that the Powhatans didn’t want to sustain foreigners in their lands due to a famine. Perhaps the power of the missionaries was tested to see if by sacrifice they could banish the famine and by keeping the accruitments of those priests passed on items to others.}
