Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Tagged: Collings, Collins, Gedmatch, West Virginia
Hello everyone,
I have been researching my Southern West Virginia Collins family for many years, but recently decided to start over as everything started looking familiar and strange at the same time.
It’s been 10 years since I participated in this forum, but a recent hint from Bertie County, NC let me back here.
My oldest Collins ancestor is David (b1790) and Rebecca Collings, who in 1850 lived near Beckley, WV, part of Montgomery County, Virginia at the time. Their son, David James Collins (b 1824 md Celie Jarrell) was born in Montgomery County, VA and Died in Raleigh County, WV. I have little information other than this other than hunches due to naming conventions and such.
The Collins/Thompsey Posting line shows promise, as well as the Josiah Collins line from Bertie County, NC. If anyone is part of these lines I would love to get more info or compare DNA to see if I can get past this roadblock.
My Gedmatch # is M656558. Let me know if you have any info or any suggestions on where else to search. Thanks! Mark
