my father was a Bolin, I have been trying to find by fathers people for a very long time.I know he had told me his people came down from Virginia and wound up in Arkansas. He was Cherokee blood. I could really use the help to locate other members of the family. His sister was burried on indian teritory in Tn.
Bolin is a name that is known among Saponi/Tutelo (VA/NC Siouan) families. In fact, I believe it’s one of the half dozen names that are documented to tribal people way back when. A lot of Indian families were called, or perhaps called themselves Cherokee back in the day when Cherokee meant “friendly Indian,” so it’s possible that’s a misnomer. Perhaps looking for clues along this line will be helpful. To find Siouan Bolin in VA , look for families in the Piedmont (the hilly area in the middle of the state, pretty much, especially the southern portion, and especially, the Highway 58 corridor.
