I recently came across a Ambrose Senter who received a grant from the Crown in 1770 in Lincoln county(old Tryon County) NC. he was apparently settling there with his brother James Senter. I know that James came down from Prince Edward co Va between 1761 and 1770. I do believe that they were both brothers of Stephen of Bedford and Albemarle co. VA.
I suspect that Ambrose was the father of Zachariah because I noticed a child named Ambrose being born to Zachariah in the late 1700″s
The use of the name Ambrose appears to be rare in our family. the only other trace I found for the use of this given name in our family was in Devonshire England in the 1600’s

October 27, 2005 at 12:29 am #21054Hi Allen, this is a surprise! What else do you have on on these guys?Do you have a mother listed?Who else do you have? So,they were originally from England? Please fill me in,where are you,and where do you fit in here?Zachariah had a brother also, you have more info.than I do.I can’t wait to see what all you have.Have you been at this long?Waiting for a response,
October 27, 2005 at 12:29 am #21055Allen,do you have all of Zachariah’s children listed?Have you seen the Book “Fisher River”by Rev.Hardin Talliafarro. In the Book it lists Zachariah as having, son Sol Senter, who married Sally Spencer, daughter of Polly Spencer,John Senter, son of Zack, married Hollin, daughter of Oliver Stanley, and Zack Senter,Jr.,son of Zack.I have been going over this and it is amazing at the small details that have been missed. The Book is listed on the Internet.Alot of the people listed in this book can be traced and connected to Senter’s also.Let me know what you think.I think alot of us have some corrections to make.Waiting to hear from you,

I went into my stacks of notes and found that it was Sol and Sally who had a child named Ambrose. for me, this intuitive view still holds water. as you know, they frequently used the father and grandfather names as well a the mother and grandmother. they also used the mothers maiden name as a middle name for a son. (the notes that I referred to were from Ancestry.com)
I have been working on this for about a year now. as you probably already know, Senters’are obsessive compulsive. I have memorized most of my notes( with the noted exception above). We are like a dog that won’t let go of a bone!
I am a descendent from James lacey Senter born 1730 approx in New Kent county Va./Stephen Senter born in Virginia 1752 (Prince Edward co?)/William Ephriam born 1786 Tryon co. NC. (mother was most likely Native American). We will talk more about this in later emails/ Caleb O Senter born 1830 Lincoln co Nc./William V. Senter borm 1858 Lincoln county Nc./Jonas Senter born 1787 Lincoln co Nc./Torrence Coley Senter born 1908 he was my father.
We have suspected that we are kin to the folks in Surry Co Nc. So far the Ambrose connection is all I have found.
I live in Asheboro NC. I am retired. I live on a small 20 acre farm and am quiet at home in the country.
Speaking of this, I am going to sign off for now and go feed the chickens.
