Hi Bee,
Yes, someone has done a lot of work on my mom’s line…her father came over from Romania (gypsy, my g-aunt Magdelena had long black braids and dressed in black embroidered skirt and vest and a white ruffled blouse; I will post a photo when I can) in the early 1900’s, I think 1914 (Palasan, Copatina, do not have any other names). My grandmother’s line is well documented and consists of mainly French and Scottish ancestry…however there are a few names that are mysteries. I will have to double check, but I think the Folliete’s were from Calais, France.

June 2, 2007 at 6:29 pm #27408Sorry…typo, should be Folliett. I thought I would post them as I think they are really cool names. I have seen variants of these such as LeFebre etc.
June 2, 2007 at 6:29 pm #27414Wow, that’s a cool piece of family history. I look forward to seeing a picture!
One of my very heavy duty (as in almost every line crossed their path) surnames is “Foley”. But I’ve seen it written “Folas”, and Follia or something similar. Ours is supposed to be Irish, I think. Where I grew up, most of the folks with that surname resemble each other (small stature, fair skin, freckles). That is, except for the Grandmother in my avatar & her father.

Name changes were very common, when my grandfather came over from Romania, he was Demetrui Palasan, he then changed it to Dan Poloson. The Romanian side is also small statured and dark-eyed and haired. My sisters and I are much taller than our mom and aunts and uncles. My grandfather wore a size 6 shoe!! He passed when I was but 9, he was a wonderful man…gave me my first horse and taught me to ride. I always felt more comfortable bareback than in a saddle. The photo of my g-aunt I will have to post when I return home, as my big picture files are on my main PC.
