Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Hey Everyoneone, I wondered if someone here knows the answer to my question? I am part Saponi and Cherokee. I don’t qualify to get memberships from either tribe (at least the way things are now), but I wondered in such a case if someone of dual or more tribal blood can join and be a member of all those tribes or if you become a member of one thats all you can be a member of. I guess I wonder if you can have dual citizenship in more than one tribe if you qualify? I’ve wondered thos for some time. Thanks, Jeff in STL
So far as I understand, this would depend on the rules of that tribe. I believe most prohibit it.
Jeff,
I don’t know about all the other tribes, but among the Lumbee and the Coharie, dual tribal membership is strictly forbidden. You have to choose one or the other.
