Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Seeking info on Dunsons, especially early 1800 family in Wake County, NC. A Calvin Dunson (originally married to Edy Morgan) and some other relatives moved to Randolph County, NC (where Calvin married Nancy Lassiter), and Harry and wife Fanny moved on to Ohio. Trying to link Calvin to parents — possibly Charles and Sally. Any info helpful. Sometimes name is corrupted to Dunston, Dunstan, Dunstin.
What makes you lean towards Charles Dunson and Sally Bass as Calvin’s parents?

Timing & location mostly and lack of other good alternatives. Why do you ask? Do you know anything that might be useful?
I looked at early census and marriage records. When and where do Harry and Fannie showup in Ohio?
Bill
Bill — they are in Cessna, Hardin County, Ohio, in 1880, ED 96.
That’s the last time they appear, given their ages I assumethey were dead by 1900.
This is probably of no use, but I *think* some of the Tunissen family of New Netherland moved down the coast to the general vicinity of Cape May, NJ in the middle of the 18th century and engaged in boat building under the name Dunson.
If that has anything to do with your folks, I could try to dredge up the evidence. I came across it a good many years ago, so it’s not right at hand, and I may have it wrong anyhow. I was studying shipwrights, not genealogy, at the time.
Most of the population of New Netherland was Calvinist, so that would not be unusual as a given name. “Tunis” was also a common first name for a man, in the Dutch colony.
Thank you for the reply. I do not believe at this time that there is any connection.
