Hi,
My family history appears to coincide geographically and chronologically to the history of High Plains clans. My DNA also is similar, with genes from the Middle East and Africa. In addition, there is a lot of family history in the hills of the Carolinas that I would like to know more about. My grandmother, Addie Smart, from Rutherford County NC & my GF William Benjamin Epps, from Greenville SC, eloped and moved north around 1915.
You’ll laugh at this, bt I am the only swarthy person in a family of fair-skinned blondies, which does make me curious. Also, my GF was such an incredible mountain man. I also have a strong love for the plants and animals of the forest and meadows. It would mean a lot to me if I could find out more about the origin of my Epps family values and practices. My GF was a very quiet man, and he passed away when I was 5. All of my other predecessors, including parents, are gone as well, so if tis heritage is to be discovered and preserved, someone from my generation had better get after it!
My farthest-back documented Epps ancestor was:
Benjamin William Epps(1822–1896)
15 Jan 1822 • Spartanburg, Spartanburg, South Carolina, United States
Census records say his father was Daniel Epps, who was born in VA ca. 1793.
I am looking forward to maybe finding cousins and increased understanding!
January 7, 2016 at 11:00 pm #37985Hello James
I am also a Epps descendant. My 4th great grandmother was Temperance Epps b: 1815 in VA, married to John Shepherd. They were both enumerated on the 1850 Caswell Co NC census as Mulatto. Around 1855 they left for Hawkins Co TN, but settled in White / Van Buren Co in 1860. In 1880 they moved to Yell Co Arkansas.
