Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
My earliest documented Epps ancestor was
Benjamin William Epps
(1822–1896)His father was Daniel Epps. Acording to US Census, he was born in VA ca. 1793.
DNA results, chronology and geography all hint that this family had Native and mixed origins in the area of the VA-NC-SC Piedmont. Daniel & family left VA about the same time that many mixed families did.
Any assistance in tracing these origins would be forever appreciated!
Hi James,
I know Spartanburg in the 1700s/1800s is a location for many people here. In my family DNA project over 10% of our closest cousins have ancestors in Spartanburg in the 1700s. One cousin (A077171) has Epps ancestors – earlier from VA not SC though. The descendants marry into Tucker, Sherrill, Parsons, Stapp, and Wheat lines. In general these lines have a history of being mixed Native, Tucker is the only line I know are direct to me though. Don’t know if that’s any help.
Welcome to SaponiTown!

PS That number is a DNA kit number from GedMatch – if you have a DNA sample to match against.
