I’ve never been able to prove any Saponi ancestry; but we have some NA (maybe Nottoway?) and our folks lived on the Meherrin River, very near Fort Christanna while it was occupied. That’s my paternal line. On my mom’s side, I have several ancestors from the Germanna colony — mainly (maybe exclusively) the “second colony” there (of 1717), that didn’t occupy their 1714 fort, and (after they worked off their indentures) settled mainly in present Madison County, VA, on the Robinson River and its tributary streams.
Anyway, as a Germanna descendant I’ve been watching their Facebook page, and saw this post today. Thought it might interest some in Saponitown who have visited or otherwise studied Fort Christanna. About a month ago I heard a slide lecture by this author, Dr. Eric Larsen, and I sent him some links to Christanna info on the web.

I have also been looking at the details of the Germanna colonies. I have found one family of my direct ancestors who were part of the 2nd Germanna colony, but suspect there are others.
I’ve been using this list of the original Germanna settlers to trace ancestors: http://germanna.org/2013/09/10/list-of-original-germanna-settlers/
My direct ancestors are Johannes Nay and Maria Clara Otterbach through their son Johann Jacob…
- Noeh/Nay, Johannes and wife, Maria Clara Otterbach; children: Gerderuth, Anna Catherine, Maria Clara and Johann Jacob.
This is my grandfather’s grandmother Elizabeth ‘Lizzie’ Nay (1878-1938) – gg-grandaughter of Johannes ‘Jacob’ Nay.

Christanna last month; and also one of the student archaeology assistants who worked on the Germanna dig this summer presented a poster about both 1714 forts at the Southeast Archaeology Conference last week in Athens, GA. https://www.facebook.com/GermannaArch/photos/a.373142469477061.1073741829.354976221293686/538223099635663/?type=3&theater
