I just came onto the forum. I usually check it every morning while I have my first cup of java. I was surprised to find 50 people using the forum, 2 members and 48 guests. The interest in searching for your native american heritage or the truth of where you came from is growing. Linda , you should be really proud of your accomplishments.
Brenda 🙂
July 21, 2003 at 12:59 pm #7612I wonder if that’s a glitch? The most I’ve ever seen on is about 5 at a time. Right now, at 9 AM, there are 51 people allegedly on board. Yoohoo, anybody out there?
Maybe we’re being hacked, hahaha.
July 21, 2003 at 12:59 pm #7617I’m thinking maybe we got hit by some CACA.
Essentially, CACA is a bot, which will “hit” any page (or all of them) of your Web site, pretending on each hit to be a different user. It uses an army of proxy servers to hide behind, so that each time it hits your site, it has a different IP number. For all intents and purposes, it looks like a different user each time it visits your web server. Part of its goal is to simulate traffic, stuffing your log files and artificially inflating reports to online tracking services (such as Alexa). This makes you appear to be busy as Hell. People ask all the time, “How do these brand new PPC search engines hit the ground running with so much traffic?”. This may be part of the answer — they’re pretending to have lots of visitors, when in reality, the majority of their visitors are faceless bots that will never buy anything from your site..
In case everybody doesn’t know, caca is a word in some languages for manure.
I got this quote from an article suggesting that the reason the economy is in a downturn is because, instead of using the internet to stimulate business the way we all expected it would, nearly all of us are guilty of using it to scam, rip, spam, mooch, etc. etc. I know I’ve sure been spinning my wheels trying to make a reasonable living online, only to find that anything I try to offer, somebody else is giving away, or giving away for much less than anybody can make a living with.
And then of course, there’s the viruses. I had my web design business picking up speed nicely last winter when I got clobbered three times in a row by Klez. Disabled me for a month. Lost my new client. I’m still trying to get back where I was.
Multiply that by all the other businesses, big and small, getting derailed by those things, and maybe the dark side of the internet is a real factor in why the economy’s going to the dogs.
Anybody else getting half a dozen spams a day for Viagra and “enlargement” products??? Gone are the days when I’d get one or two a month, and I could forward them onto my husband for fun. Now I spend a good chunk of my email time just hitting the delete button. After my virus problems I don’t even open most.
July 21, 2003 at 12:59 pm #7618Hi Linda,
I used to look forward to getting on line around 7am, here lately I have also been receiving abunch of caca, sometime between midnight and 7 is mostly when it pops up, Do you need to order Viagra, How about a threesome, some African kings or whatever trying to deposit 10 billion dollars in my account. I have removed myself from all the mailing that I get and they just keep coming. Opening them is a mistake, found that out the hard way. At work!!
tasheaka:(
July 21, 2003 at 12:59 pm #7619Hahahaha. There must still be people fallling for that African King with the billions of dollars ’cause there’s more people sending it out every day! It’s unbelievable. It looks like about 20% of the email bandwidth is going to those clowns, plus the Viagra and the “Size Matters” clowns.
This culture is so weird. I think it’s a Taco Bell or a Hardee’s — one of the fast food chains, has a big banner “Size Matters” to get our attention. I could just hear some long deceased old auntie groaning about how crude that was. There was a day when I thought she was just a prude, but now I realize she was right. That mess is just plain crude. And they think they’re going to get me to by a sandwich with that kind of imagery. That’s even stranger.
I tried to get my kids not to say things “suck,” but had to give that up, the phrase is so universal. But we all know what’s being referred to being sucked. And it’s crude. We’re getting old aren’t we? Back when we were young, that was considered swearing. Now it’s supposed to be okay, but it still means what it means.
