There will be a March on Washington on August 6, 2004. I spoke with a lady from oklahoma. She informed me that they will be marching from there to D.C.. They are protesting the gov’t ignoring the Freedman. They were excluded from the Dawes rolls. There gravesites ignored or destroyed. The slaves of the civilized tribes. I hate those terms. But, that is what they are called. I could post where they are going to meet in D.C. just in case you are able to make it. I may drive down with some of my friends.
Have a good day.

July 29, 2004 at 9:27 am #10430The March is set to occur on August 6, 2004, following a Caravan of Black Indians starting at the Nearly 900 year old Spiro Mounds in Spiro Oklahoma, a sacred bural place. The March will end at the reflecting pool on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
They have a legal defense. I spoke with Ms Angela Molette myself. She is in Enid Oklahoma.
I still do not know if I could get the day off yet.
Have a nice day. Thanks for your response.
July 29, 2004 at 9:27 am #10462So there are some who’ve driven all the way from OK? That’s a long haul. Hope they all make it safely.
July 29, 2004 at 9:27 am #10515I did not attend the event in D.C. due to my job obligations. However, a few of my friends drove down. One person met some “BANKS” he believes are related. Our medicine woman met a cousin of hers from out there in Oklahoma. The meeting was very interesting. Sum it up like this: Don’t let anyone dictate to you who you are. Know your history and defend your right to preserve it. There is going to be a video out of the event. I will let you know. I asked how many people attended. I was told it appeared to be about 150. People were coming and going.
July 29, 2004 at 9:27 am #10516I forgot to mention that in Connecticut there is going to be a big pow-wow. I went last year. It was great. ALot of room to sit down. I did not have to carry a chair. Alot of tribes from across the country. It is a smaller version of the “Gathering of the Nations” Large grounds to celebrate. It is called “Schemitzen”
date: 8/26/04-8/29/04
North stonington CT
860-396-6188 for those that can make it. I want to attend this one for sure.
July 29, 2004 at 9:27 am #10550Schemitzen is the Pequot pow wow, the tribe that reconstituted itself, and then was the first tribe to go into casinos, using their tribal status to legalize it. There’s a lot of stink about their legitimacy as a tribe, but when it comes to pow wow, everybody goes there because it’s the biggest on the east coast, with the biggest prizes for their dance contests.
July 29, 2004 at 9:27 am #10573I met alot of people from the southeastern as well as southwestern tribes. There was alot of seating which I loved. I didn’t have to carry one. This pow-wow is my favorite one to attend so far. In the evening they had a tent for natives that practice christianity. They had a prayer meeting. Hey something for everyone.
Any folks on this site residing in this area that will be attending. I would love to meet some people from the forum in person????
The gov’t and or the state has strick rules. Rules that are biased. Based for the most part on physical characteristics. The tribe seems to have it together now.
They also had some native dancing from the Carribean. I thought it was quite interesting and enjoyable.
