hello,
my name is gina, and I would like to request any help that is possible tracing my family. I also have heard the stories of Blackfoot indian in my line, along with cherokee on my fathers side. there was also mention of some german blood, but my grandparents were supposed to have been full blooded, one cherokee and one blackfoot. I don’t have a lot of info, but here is what I do have.
my father is Troy Gipson
born 12/31/39 in salyersville ky magoffin county
Troy’s mother media nickels gipson born ?? in ky died 8/12/1979 salyersville ky parents were joseph and nan nickels who were born in ky around 1870’s. media had several siblings parmelia, hargus, and josie.
Troy’s father mckinley gipson born about 1902 in ky died 12/25/1973 salyersville ky parents were green and martha gipson. had siblings tatlor (taylor???), grant, frankie, lucyan,williamson j, and dewey.
they were never married to each other. media was married to a bobby (robert) gipson and had 7 children by him, and mckinley was married to vicey (last name????) and had 2 children.
this is the farthest back that I have been able to get. I would love any help that I can get from anyone to get farther back.

wow, that was fast work!!! I really appreciate you looking for that information for me. I kept hitting a brick wall, since I live in texas and haven’t been able to get to the local cemetary. It would be really neat to find someone who is related to that side of the family here. I haven’t seen or heard from anyone in ky since my dad died in 1983. again, thanks for the help!!!!:D

Hopefully someone is still on this sight that can assist me in my search as well… I have reached a stumbling block surrounding the same “Green Gipson” time period, although my situation a slightly different…
I’m working on a geneology project and I’m running into some road blocks that can be traced to the “Green Gipson” time period and I was wondering, if through your research, you could shed any light. I’m looking for any information on one “Bascom Gipson” who married “Kate Barnett b.1887 Magoffin Co” in Nov 1904. Records indicate they were married in Magoffin Co. KY. It seems the left the state in a hurried fashion sometime 1909/1910 and settled in Central Washington using the name of “Bascom and Kate Harmon” It appears (according to census records) they had a daughter “Letha Harmon” born in Kentucky. Letha Harmon is my direct Grandmother on my mothers side. Any information would be greatly appriciated… Although I find no corrolation between the two, my mother can only remeber that her uncle Evan Harmon told her to look for “Green Gipson/Gibson”

Hello Cliff: ) Your uncle (and mother) were correct….when researching the Harmon family it is important to “dig” on the Gibson/Gipson side of the fence….as many members of the Gibson family used the surname Harmon as well. Thank you so much for your advice. I’ve always thought of myself as a pretty detail oriented guy, but Bascom Gipson/Harmon sure covered his tracks prior to his 1904 marriage to Kate Barnett.

There are NUMEROUS trees on Ancestry.com that incorrectly show a Green Gibson who was b: abt 1866 and who d: 1923 and they further show his wife as Martha nee Hale….they have the wrong Green and dates….the Green that died in 1923 was the infany born on the same date (see above)…the Green that MD Martha Hale was born likely between 1865 and say 1875 and he died in the 40’s as I also showed above and yes, Martha was his wife…..some trees also show his parents as : Squire Gibson and alternatingly either Perlina/Paulina Jane nee Cole OR Nancy/Sibby Harmon….some even attach him as a CH of Squire’s father Bryson….just be watchful and follow them one person at a time from date to date with records sourced….this is a very tricky family to sort thru…and many of the “unions” and subsequent children were not following what we would call a marraige///legal or not…these people, our ancestors did intermarry frequently and sometimes had numerous children with numerous spouses, legal or not….it is what it is. Anywho….do a SEARCH here for some of the keynames and more will find you as I and others have posted pretty extensively in the past on these lines/people. Take care~~~~Laurie
