I have so many file drawers full of documents and research on my various family lines that I made the decision to put some of them online. What good do they do in a file cabinet and the knowledge of them in my head….ha ha.

Hi Clydene, I checked out your website and it is put together very nicely. I noticed you have an Elizabeth Grigsby b 1761 who married into your Gores. I have an Elizabeth Grigsby b 1717. She had 3 brothers ~Enoch, Redmond, and Samuel Grigsby. I thought one of them could be your ancestor’s father or grandfather. You never know. Also, Grigsby isn’t really that common of a name. Take care and let me know if you want any info on that lineage~it leads to the Patawomeck Indian tribe of Stafford VA. Greydove:)

Wow! It is likely both Grigsby Fams. are related since it is pretty early on, however, I haven’t done a lot of research on Elizabeth Grigsby’s line. I do know they were from VA. Did any of your Grigsbys migrate to TN that you know of?
Sure, send me anything you have. I’ll bet there’s a connection if enough research is done to trace my Grigsbys.
I’d sure like to find great grandmother Eliza Jane Gore’s mother only known by the name “Jane”. Eliza Jane always told her children she was a Cherokee from Tennessee. She was from TN near Okalona and she was NA. There was a Chief Nettles in that same area and there was a Cherokee Village in Okalona but no other documentation other than a little on Chief Nettles. Oh, how we struggle to find our lost ones. Only been researching this for abt. 30 years…..ha ha.
Tell me more about your Patawomecks. Maybe theres some kind of connection. We never know until we search.

Hi Clydene, Well, I went back into my tree on ancestry.com to my Grigsbys. As I was telling you, my Elizabeth Grigsby had 3 bros~Enoch seems to be the closest in age etc, to have been the link to your Elizabeth, anyway he had a dau ~Elizabeth but her bdate doesn’t jive with yours, however she was b 1773 in Edgefield S Carolina d 1816 Tenn. Enoch Grigsby b 1715 Stafford VA d 1794 (South, Puerto Rico, USA?) her mother~Mary Butler b 1724 Stafford VA d 1800 S Carolina. Btw~I also have Williams that tie into my Elkins line~ As far as the tie from Grigsbys to Patawomeck~look back in “Share Genealogy Research” to my post #1 dated 6~29~2008~it is there (also that same thread~post #6 has a pic of my Greatgrandmother Bailes (who descends from the Patawomecks) Also, as I was looking thru Grigsbys in my tree~some did migrate to KY and IN and as shown~S Carolina and TN. We likely have some connections as I also connect to beeleaf thru this lineage. Take care~Grey:D

Elizabeth Grigsby was in New Market, Shenandoah Co., VA when she married into the Gores. This is just from memory but I am going to sit down tonight and go through everything I have on them. It’s pretty easy to check them out as VP Al Gore and I descend from Elizabeth Grigsby – his through Isaac Gore and mine through Isaac’s brother, Henry – both grandsons of Elizabeth Grigsby Gore. Sen. Gore sent me their entire reseached Pedigree years ago and I’m going to go through all the married names to see if any of yours come up in VA. That will take a while.
Surprise! We are related through Powhatan! I descend from the Bollings on my Paternal line (often called the Red Bollings) through my 3rd ggmo, Nancy M. Bowles, who was the daughter of Francis “Fanny Bolling” and John Bowles. At exactly this point, I think I am related to Beeleaf in Henry Co., VA where Fanny and John Bowles lived prior to moving to DeKalb Co., TN. (parent Co – Warren Co,) This is where my John Jefferson Williams married Nancy M. Bowles in 1813. Something is going on here for sure with you, me and Beeleaf. We just have to connect all the dots somehow.
My Fannie Bolling Bowles had a sister, Nancy Bolling Bowles who resided in Franklin Co., VA adjoining Henry Co. She married the brother of John Bowles – Bowles brothers married Bolling sisters. Both families moved to DeKalb Co., about 1810-11. Nancy Bolling was underage and had to get permission from her father and mother to present to the Court at Franklin Co., VA to marry, William Bowles. I have a copy of that letter. It is signed: “John Bolling wife Mary Jefferson Bolling” Can’t get better proof than that. They lived in Chesterfield Co., VA at the time. Mary Jefferson is Thomas Jefferson’s sister – John Bolling descends from Jane Rolf who married Robert Bolling, the grandaughter of Pocahontas.
I researched in VA and found a letter written by Robert Bolling who was of the “White Bollings”. He stated Pocahontas was “Cherokee”???? He knew Thomas Bolling, her son, and probably would have known what Tribe he was?? Just thought I’d throw that in here as I’ve always questioned that or wondered if it could possibly be true.
My maiden name is Williams. I have researched and documented earliest known ancestor, Ambrose Williams b. 1725, who resided in Southampton, Brunswick and Lunenburg Cos., VA. From Lunenburg Co., he moved to Orange Co., NC and then to Burke Co., NC and died in Greenville Co., SC. Earlier than that, I am not sure of who his parents were in VA or if he was the immigrant from Wales. I kind of suspect he was not the immigrant for various reasons.
Wouldn’t it be astounding if we were related through Powhatan, the Williams’ and the Grigsby??? All are from my paternal line with the Grisbys, Bolling, Bowles, Gores being intermarried names.
Now, you add something very interesting with your Elizabeth Grigsby being Native American that seems to fill in some gaps for me. OK, Henry Gore who lived and died in Okalona, TN was the father of my William Carroll “Tipton” Gore who married Cherokee Jane unknown there in Okalona. I’ve always questioned why my line was the only line in all the Gores in TN that was NA. I assumed it might have been because my Henry Gore raised his family not less than 300 yards from a Cherokee Village but when I look at some of the early Gores not in my direct line, they seem to have some NA features and the Grigsby line could explain that.
Well, we’ve opened up a lot of questions with more research needed.
Hey Clydene, That’s pretty cool! I’ll do so more digging too. I also have some Hart ancestry that was in the Rockbridge Co Shenandoah area I suspect of having Cherokee but haven’t confirmed it yet. Wow, it’s so neat to connect to long lost family and better yet to find it connects through our Indian ancestors. Hey Clydene, If you’re kin to Beeleaf you’re kin to me. My maiden name is Bouldin and my Dad had his DNA tested and found out what I suspected that we are really Bowling. That’s where his DNA matched up. It’s funny though We only know through William Bowling born 1813, but the DNA matched up to a female Bowling that was Dad’s great, great grandmother though his grandmother that was a Foley. The way I understand the DNA test that Dad did it was suppose to go up the male line, so looks like our Bowling family tree is a wreath instead. I tease my Dad that he’s been spelling his name wrong all his life, then I assure him that you go by what’s on your birth certificate, which his name and my name are spelled Bouldin, but on Dad’s birth certificate his dad’s name is spelled Bowlin. Beeleaf’s great grandmother and my grandfather were siblings, so we are some level of cousin. And that’s on the Bowling side, we wouldn’t try to figure out where we stand on the Foley side.
