About a month ago, I decided to go through my box of genealogical research papers, to discard what was not needed,at the bottom of the box was an business size yellowed envelope.The name and address was not one I knew,but it had been mailed from Philadelphia,inside the envelope was a letter dated 12-9-92 from a gentleman stating that we may be related and that he was also researching the Nunn’s from Chapel Hill Orange Co NC.I then remembered joining a local genealogical research group and posted in their newsletter, the surnames I was researching,and Nunn was included ,he had also added his telephone number.
I checked the phone book and found him still living at the same address with the same phone number,but instead of calling, decided to write and share a little Nunn information.Several days later, the phone rang,I answered, a male voice said ” Hi cousin “. We share the same gggf Ruffin Nunn,he went on to tell me that he migrated from Durham many years ago,but goes back at least once a year,and how many reunions I’ve missed and that Nunn’s still live in the Chapel Hill area and oral history passed down was that the Nunn’s were indian slaves,he mentioned that quite a few people he has met, who have lived in NC, have asked him is he a NC indian.He mentioned that a family trait passed down from the Nunn’s side was a widows peak, neither my brother or sister has that hairline but I do.
Hey Forest …………. those Nunn’s you met years ago were cousins.
