Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Here is a link to a neat article, mainly plains material but worth looking at.
I believe that early counter parts to this type of bead was found all over the southeast and are found in the sites throughout Va and NC.

Thank you for putting this up! I like reading about this sort of thing. I use both bone and horn hair pipes in some of my stuff. I’m getting ready to order some of the purple wompam (I’m certain I misspelled that, sorry) beads from Fire Mountain.
