Hope this finds everyone doing well….and enjoying a new year. I know I am glad that 2011 is behind us and I have a new year to do things bigger and better. It is one of my resolutions to try and attend more powwows and dance more this year. And I also hope to get another outfit together…always good to have backups.
So what’s going on in everyone else’s lives??? There hasn’t been much activity lately so I would assume everyone is busy with real life. Ken and I are busy with taking care of our mothers, and he is still working on the deerhide tanning. And has taken up a new hobby of throwing knives…he’s getting better…LOL.

The last time I threw knives I almost killed the neighbors chickens. And I don’t do hides, but I do make hats and mess with feathers. Hunters bring the birds. Turns out I’m allergic to feathers, but at least I don’t have to buy meat anymore!
Only go to a few powwows, they’re so far apart here, and I have a lot of invites to more tradish doings that tend to be out of state. One of these days I’ll wander back your way with a proper SE outfit.

Well, I am on facebook, but still try to keep up with events here, too. After we danced at Waccamaw and Virginia Beach, I am thinking I need to come up with some type of headgear for a lady…LOL. It was plumb cold!! Best thing was just taking my blanket and wrapping up…including over my head.
Ken has been practicing quite a bit…even broke one knife at the handle. I do hope you make it out here again and dance. So many powwows have changed or no longer being held…it’s always constant change. There are a couple of guys who will be doing 6 powwows this year that are just getting into it after holding one last year. They have been food vendors in years past…so this should be interesting. Hoping the price of gas will hold for this year so that we can travel….Ken’s work has been sporadic with this economy so may have to pick and choose like we did last year. Well, in the winter the ladies way back when wore matchcoats which were nothing more than a blanket of hides wrapping around, making a hood. Maybe you could make a hooded dress or cape for those cold days, then you could still stay warm and traditional at the same time. Around here, we have our cold weather powwows indoors, makes for close company.
All the local powwows here like to happen when I’m out of town, even in the winter. I can be home 3 months solid, then the one weekend I decide to be gone, and its powwow time!
