Hi all,
I am new to this forum and I have hit a brick wall on my paternal side of the family. My great grandparents were Benjamin Whitmore and Nancy Gray. Their son Jesse Whitmore was my grandfather (b. 1874). In the 1880 census and 1900 census they are listed in the Richland County South Carolina township. I cannot find ANYTHING on this family. When I google the name and genealogy research, it always refers me to Native American websites, but I have found NOTHING. When researching your website, I see that there are alot of Whitmore’s in various regions, but not South Carolina. Does anyone have any information?
Also, on my maternal side, I am a direct descendant of Hezekiah Minor and Elizabeth Goings. I also descend from Meshack Davis of Maryland who then migrated to Cherokee County, North Carolina. They bounced back and forth from NC/TN/GA. I am happy to share if any needs any.
Thanks,
jacktheripper

Hi Jack,
There is a tree on ancestry that lists your Whitmore’s…it also has the 1850 census as a source for this line, those Whitmore’s listed are in Richland County. They are Nancy 25 yrs, Minerva A. 9 yrs, Henry B. 7 yrs, Frances V. 3 yrs. There is also an Anderson Goin listed, not with the Whitmore family, he is listed as 25 yrs, and a stock minder.
Don’t know if this helps??

March 3, 2008 at 10:20 pm #30011Thanks so much for the help guys. I believe that the ancestry tree that you are referring to is actually mine. It is under Daniel and Linda Ash family tree. Please everyone take a look and see what mistakes I have made, etc. I know that I have a lot of repeat information, but I think that it is mostly correct.
I am so excited to see some cousins here. I descend from Hezekiah Minor and Elizabeth Goings, Zachariah Minor and Aggy Sizemore, Alfred Minor and Chaney Fields, John and Susan, then my great grandfather is Tivis Tipton Minor. My grandmother, who is 85 years young, has been researching this family for about 35 years. She has interviews from some of her uncles before they passed. She also has been to the home that Zachariah built in the Clinch River Valley, which is amazing. I will be happy to share any information that I have. I look forward to hearing from any one who has questions or would like to share information. My grandmother also has an amazing theory about the origns of Hezekiah, which has been a huge mystery for many years.

I would love to here her story, those Minors live long, my papaw Minor is 89 years young, he will be 90 in July. I talk alot with him about Kyles Ford. I have been there as well and seen where Hez,Zach etc are buried in the family cemetery there on the property- it is called the Hurd-Goins cemetery because out cousins the Herds ended up with the property and it still belongs to family which is great. They have restored the house to the orginial log, they took the clapboard off that was put up in later years, it is beautiful and you can walk to the Clinch River. Guilfords house which is not to far but up a little ways was destroyed a couple of years ago from heavy snow, but last I heard they were going to fix the roof ( it caved in).
My line makes us I think 3rd cousins it is:
Hez and Elizabeth Goins
Zach and Aggie Sizemore
Guilford and Ussley Roberts( brother to your Alfred, my avatar is Ussley)
Richard and Cynthia Roberts
Elijah Minor and G.Frances Sears ( my papaw)
I have heard various stories on Hezekiah would love to hear her take on it.:D
March 3, 2008 at 10:20 pm #30015Melungeon,
We have got to get together and talk. I would love to exchange information. What is your PawPaw’s take on them? Also, if you have any photos, I would love to share. My personal email is daniellindaash@bellsouth.net I don’t mind sharing that email with everybody, so have at it.
I am trying to put together the most comprehensive genealogy database that I possibly can on this line. More importantly, I want to put stories and “little things” that can be included. This is strictly going to be for my personal use and the use of my family and I will give annotated credit to all sources of information so that the family knows how it was all put together.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Linda
