Becky and I went to the friday night session and were there from procession to closing drum on Sat. As usual, it was just what we needed to recharge our batteries… even though we left exhausted, we were still energized. It was good to see some of the dancers again as we hadn’t seen them since last fall. We met Tanya from Oregon in her shell dress and she hung out with us when she wasn’t dancing. She is a delightful young lady and beautiful dancer and we were blessed to spend time with her. She couldn’t get over how different it was from the Northwestern powwows. We have digital pictures of her dancing but she is a little shy so she will have to say it’s ok before we post……. and to Tanya, when you get back to your computer in Oregon, Becky will send you the pictures and you can see how beautiful you are….. please let us share them with the Saponitownies …
peace

June 13, 2004 at 9:58 pm #9911It was good to meet those folks from Saponitown.com who attended the Occaneechi Pow-wow this past weekend. I regret I didn’t have as much time as I would have liked to chat, but it was still good to meet all of you. The Tribe appreciates your support.
June 13, 2004 at 9:58 pm #9914The Occaneechi pow wow this weekend was truly awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and it was great to meet some of our webbies. Forrest, I was glad to make your acquaintance and shake your hand. I know you were very busy, but, I appreciate your taking the time to talk to us. Tonya, you are a very sweet and beautiful woman….and a good dancer as well. I am glad that you took the time to come and check out the pow wow. I hope your trip on to Greensboro went ok. Have a good week and let us know when you get home if you want the pics…they came out great. I loaded them on the computer and relived all the wonderful times we had watching the dancers….and it was good to connect with our friends once more. And to take the spirit home….

And we took that spirit to the ancesters this afternoon and shared it with them. With Blue Eagle’s drumhead rattle, sage and tobacco, we returned to the kudzu. They gifted me with a song that I left with them. Then we found Susan’s footstone S S M and Groves’ footstone G M. We also found more fieldstones. Estimate as many as 50 there. Made a digital record of it all and replaced the kudzu after turning the tombstones down. The only way to keep it secure at this point is to leave it hidden. The info is posted and in our hearts…….. they will not be forgotten……… they will be honored.

There will be other times. They did sorta have you hoppin’. Sometimes it doesn’t take long to have a good conversation. Glad to share the time we did.

June 13, 2004 at 9:58 pm #9932I’m sorry I missed this one, but we FINALLY closed on the loan for our new home and were out with chain saws cutting timber all weekend for the house site and driveway, cutting it into firewood we can use, instead of letting it go to waste. Other than the campout coming up, we probably won’t be around too much for the next couple months till the house is set.
June 13, 2004 at 9:58 pm #10062Howdy all,
Haven’t had time to check the forum since I’ve been back home, either working or shad fishing (hence my nickname.) I was glad that Ken and Becky found me at the powwow, and I enjoyed dancing. Every one I met was so nice. Although if I ever dance again in NC, I might want to consider wearing less wool, I almost dropped from the humidity. Thanks for your hospitality!
