Hello Everyone I’m Leah. I’ve been posting in yahoo in the Other Blackfoot Indian group. Linda told me to come here and share my story. Before I start, let me ask how are you all doing and Happy New Year.

Here I go, before my grandmother died I asked her where the indian half of her family came in at. There was always talk of her being indian, I just never bothered to ask before it was too late. She always wanted to go back to Black Mountain, North Carolina and find her family. Perhaps now we should have taken her serious because she might have had the information I’m looking for now, she might even have known where in Black Mountain to start. It’s been most difficult getting what information I do have. My grandmother was an Ellis, her mother was a Hooper. The Hoopers married into the Owens, Francis and Proctor familes all of which are listed as mulattos in the census, in Rutherford and McDowell counties. The Francis family underwent two name changes from Heath and Hayscock. The Ellis half is just there my great, great, great grandfather is Harmon Ellis, also indian but there is nothing on this man prior to his marriage to Siller Hooper, all I know from his marriage certificate is his mother’s name was Peggy Ellis. Grandma said Black Foot, the Francis’s say Cherokee, Black Hawk or Black Crow.

If anyone can help me please let me know Alfred Hooper is my 4th great grandfather.
