Ladies and Gentlemen,
This is very serious business down here. This is the worst storm since Camille hit 36 years ago. They are expecting 20+ feet waves to come in on us here in south Alabama, westward into Mississippi will be worse. The city of New Orleans is expecting a direct hit. They have shown models of what will happen to the city with just a Cat 3 storm and that was devastating. This is mother nature at her worse. If you know how to pray people pray with everything in you for the people of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama especially the cities of New Orleans, La, Biloxi, Ms, Gulfport, Ms, Mobile Al and Gulf Shores Al. in that order. We will talk with you soon.

My heart goes out to all the folks in the pathway of Katrina….been praying alot that there would be some of it avoiding populated areas…but, don’t think that is going to happen. I have a good friend in Gulf Shores…and I hope she has had the sense to go further inland….she was there during Ivan..and they have still not recovered from that. You take care and let us know how you are as soon as you can…..May the Creator bless you and hear our prayers..Becky
To my Cheroenhaka(Nottoway) and Saponi brothers and sisters,
I know you have heard news from down this way. It is worse than you can imagine. Here in Lillian we were very fortunate a few homes got flooded by the bay when the surge came in and lost electricity for a short time some still do not have electricity. This storm was better to us than Ivan was but we where quite a ways from the eye wall. Our neighbors in Mississippi and Louisiana were not as fortunate. When you watch the footage from that area I know like me tears come to many of your eyes. I stopped by a service station this morning and people were walking around in a daze. I asked one lady where she was from and she said New Orleans so we are now host to many of our homeless neighbors it is heartbreaking. Their are so many tears and shattered faces.
I have a request to make of you my brothers and sisters. The American Red Cross needs all the money they can get to help the truly needy people. I don’t know if you all know it but when these storms hit us the Red Cross comes in and mans our shelters offering people a place to go and food to eat. They also give vouchers to help people replace some of the things they have lost so I beg you to help the people on the gulf coast in this time of dure need. God, our Creator will bless you tenfold for any help you can give. I thank all of you in advance for any help you can give.

Linda, I am trying to get down there to volunteer, are there any church groups in your area that are helping out? Let me know I am going to try to figure out how I can get down to volunteer, I just called Michigan Red cross and I am waiting for them to call me back, but if anyone else knows of any organizatins who are taking volunteers please let me know!

God bless you! I would offer you my home to stay in but we are so far from ground zero it would be of no use to you. I suggest you call 1-800-HELP NOW. They need help so badly. Christina, there is one thing I wish to warn you about though the people are getting very stressed, moreso in New Orleans and Mobile it appears. They are getting violent please come help but please please be careful. We have many of the refugees here in south Alabama and Mobile has very long lines for everything. People are getting very verbal and rough with each other. They are shooting each other in New Orleans. It’s a sad sad thing to see.

Well Iguess it is a good thing I am going into criminal justice then, today I found an Agency based here in Michigan Called National Relief Network, They dont have any people leaving till the end of September, but I am trying to get some more people in a group otherwise I cant get on the bus, they said I have to have a group, so with alot of prayer I am working on it, I sent out a mass email today to my drum and my community, so we will see what happens, I also contacted the Red Cross here, but they have not called me back. Hang in there Linda, we are all praying for you, every morning I have been putting my tobaco out, it will get better. People sometimes do horrible things when the are scared. We just need to pray and get organized to get you all the help! God Bless you and I am praying.
We are out of gas for our cars and they don’t know when we will get more. Our schools can’t reopen because there is no diesel for the buses and some of our schools are being used as shelters for the homeless. I live in Baldwin county and the western edges of our county was messed up pretty bad because of Mobile Bay rising and the storm surge. I had alot more to say but changed my mind…..just shaking my head at the violence and not understanding it.

The gas situation should be remedied shortley, I heard that the president finally agreed to open the reserves, so that will be fixed soon. I can understand looting for food and clothing but not electronics and booze, the shootings are just insane and acts of senceless violence. I was thinking that every morning they should set up those big military speakers and say prayer over theses areas, I mean why not if we can have tornado sirens, why not broadcast prayer, maybe it would help deter crime and give people hope. Atleast till the help gets there…. I dont know, I just know I need to find away down there soon…
I don’t understand why the government isn’t getting those people out of there? Why are they not sending in the Army? Babies and adults are dieing from heat and dehydration.
I hope there is a plan to freeze prices on some items.
We are starting to run out of gas here in North Texas as well and from the reports that I am hearing the price of food and other supplies will rise here shortly. It is just a huge mess.
I am concerned that this crisis is going to engulf everyone if they don’t do something about it soon.

They are getting them out of there in fact many of them are now in Houston and the mission continues but it will take some time to get thousands of people out. Plus it took days to find a location that would take them in….I could ask you what took Texas sooooooo long to answer the call?
As for the gas issue….The whole country will suffer this one together. The gulf coast is home to a whole lot of the oil rigs and refineries in this country. There are over 20 oil rigs that have just disappeared we have no clue where they are. Six refineries have been destroyed. We will suffer this one together…all of us just be patient and conserve fuel.
As for the food prices rising there is no valid reason for that happening so if it happens in your town do something about it in your town.
If you are so concerned that you might suffer some because of this diaster consider this…..you live on the gulf coast there is another storm developing out there it is on the path you know so well…on a southern path….when this happens 90% of them come into the gulf. What if it develops to a Katrina or Ivan level and you are trapped on the gulf coast because you don’t have the gasoline to get out? Oh woe is me I have to wait in line for gas or my bread costs a few cents more….no whining Collins you are safe in north Texas. The sad thing is if another one heads this way many people will not leave this time….wanna know why? Because many feel they have nothing to live for they have lost everything. Before you start complaining about being engulfed by this you might think about helping out.

My heart goes out to you, Linda, for what you all are suffering. We were in Greene County, NC when more than half the county was under water a few years ago. I remember how devastating that was, and know this one is many times worse.
I didn’t hear any whining in Scott’s voice. What I heard was my own anxiety that this event could be something that tips the whole country into a long Depression. Everyone woke up this week to $3 a gallon gas and everyone, everywhere is wondering what economic disaster is looming in the near future. You can’t make it through Wal-mart without hearing it on everyone’s lips.
First of off you do not have to be nasty and secondly Texas stepped up to help before Katrina even hit the Gulf. We had thousands of people from all kinds of Fire/Ems/ and Police departments ,utility companies, and scores of Church groups that set out when Katrina hit Florida. You have no grounds what so ever to criticize the state of Texas. This state sends out help and volunteers to every Hurrican that blows through. Yes they are bringing many here to Texas and that goes to show how willing we are to help.
Our government is not moving fast enough to get the people out and they have ignored legislators from that area warning of these types of scenerios. For your information I have relatives in all the Gulf states including Alabama and I am concerned for their well being. As far as living on the Gulf Coast I live in North Texas that is Dallas and Fort Worth not Houston. I am sure that I will be fine, but there are others that were already at a breaking point financially and this event will cause many homelessness issues that we all know do not get taken care of.
Food prices are tied to gas prices. If the cost of gasoline rises then the cost of shipping food and other items goes up and that cost is passed on to consumers.
My post was not a “woe is me” post it was a question and a comment about the effects this storm is having already. I never complained about “being engulfed by this”. I said “I am concerned that this crisis is going to engulf everyone if they don’t do something about it soon”. As for helping out I have been giving money to the Red Cross and other charities that are trying to get help to these people. I am expressing a concern for my fellow Americans and my extended family. It sounds like you just want to attack me and frankly I keep seeing alot of attacks taking place on this forum. They are unnecessary. You are not the only one that has concerns about what is happening.
Forgive me ok….I am just having a tough time getting over the deaths of friends I have made in coastal Mississippi and the loss of so much. Our lives here on the gulf caost are changed forever. We are frightened. We are nervous please try to understand that before getting angry at me and some others. Understand we are more directly affected. So much chaos

Linda, I could see that you were very stressed out and knew you didn’t mean to be sounding funky. Don’t worry about it.
As for the arguing lately on here, I blame myself. I’ve gotten swamped with working at my computer to make ends meet and by the end of the day, can’t stand looking at a monitor anymore and haven’t been an adequate presense. I can’t seem to keep my kids at home from squabbling, but somehow I’ve managed to do so here for a long time. Momma needs to keep a closer eye. My apologies to everyone.
We will have to get back to the way things have always been, and the warning that appears whenever anyone signs on. This is an extremely tolerant board. Nary a soul, other than Triple XXX spammers, have ever been banned here. Free debate is encouraged, but don’t even bother with ugly personal attacks.
There are mysterious gremlins aboard and ugly talk will somehow mysteriously vanish. I don’t know how it happens, it just does. And if you’re the one being attacked, don’t bother responding, ’cause when their attack disappears you’re going to look like you’re arguing with a fence post.

Feel free to gremlin away anything I might have said that sounded harsh. I realize that I should have edited something that I copied and pasted verbatim a few days ago. It did not really reflect what I wanted to say, that many of us are a group using genealogy to investigate an hypothesis, an ID that is so prevalent that there must be proof of it somewhere and that that is what we are trying to find.
