Bill;
Last P>M> I was researching my g-father on my mother’s side, Taylor Dunawaw and wife Emily Emma Muncie Dunaway, Taylor Dunaway b.Mar 31 1876 Estill Co Ky s/o Joseph Joel Dunaway b. Dec 21 1825 wife Nancy Woolery b. 1836 Estill Co Ky, Joel s/o Issac Dunaway b bef 1800 Estill Co Ky wife Sarah Rogers d/o John and Susannah Rogers she b bef1765. My question is this , is John Rogers the one and same as Capt John Rger chief of the Cherokee tribe at on time also do you have any info on relatives orior to John Rogers.
Thanking you in advance

I don’t think so.
Capt. John “Hell Fire Jack” Rogers, a Scots-American and a Tory Capt during the Rev. War, was an informal member of the Cherokee Tribe as an advisor to Chief John Jolly.
I ‘think’ he marr’d Tiana (actually Diana) Ross, a 1/4 Cherokee niece of Jolly’s.
They went to I.T. Arkansas in 1817 and Capt. John was killed during the Osage Wars.
Off the top of my head, a son of Capt John and Tiana (?), John (Jr) was the Chief of the Western Cherokee, as of the 10 October 1839 election, but you can look that up ‘for sure’ on one of the Cherokee nation sites.
Isaac Dunaway’s wife Sarah Rogers, b.abt. 1795, appears to be the daughter of John Charles ROGERS, b.1761 (maybe Stafford Co) Va, d. 24 May 1814 Bourbon Co., Ky; and Susannah SMITH, b.abt. 1765 (maybe Stafford Co.), Va; dau of Withers Smith, b.13 June 1740 Overwharton Par., Stafford Co., Va, d. 7 Dec 1813 Bourbon Co., Ky; and Jane LANE, b. 30 Dec 1748 Stafford Co., Va; d. 15 June 1825 Bourbon (prob.) Co., Ky.

March 7, 2007 at 2:35 am #25260Mr Bill Child;
I thank you so very much for the Info Bill as I’m having a little trouble with Susannah, It seems there may have been more than one Susannah Rogers, I have found one who was suppose to be the sister of Tiana who married Sam Houston, Tiana Rogers 1st married a David Gentry and after his death she married Sam Houston and she(Tiana) was suppose to be related to Brushy Head and Chief John Rogers. The Susannah I speak of here was suppose to have been the dau of Hell Fire Jack Rogers who married a Cherokee Indian woman and their children were taught by missionaries, but I guess this is what makes genealogy so interesting . Have a good day and again I thank you.
