I am also a member of two bird forums, and found this discussion very interesting.
Nice to see you hear, Bev.
Here’s a more recent link about this bird:

Linda, thanks for the link to this incredibly beautiful bird. We have a variety of other species of woodpeckers in our woods, but none this majestic. Right now, we have a flock of brightly-colored orioles. Last year I put grape jelly in their feeders which they ignored. This year I am using cherry preserves which they absolutely love. Bird watching is one of my favorite hobbies.
I’m also a fellow bird nerd. I’ve been working on a list of bird names in Tutelo. Most names are lost to history, so I’ve been coining my own. If your interested I can dig it up and post it on the language forum.
Yes, I would like to see this!
Excellent, next time I find time to work on Tutelo, I’ll do that, probably not til the end of June. I’m actually doing bird surveys for work now until then, then weekend birding trips with the local bird nerds. So I know all the names in English.
I just got back from Japan, so of course every time I try to think in Tutelo, I can only come up with Japanese! Saw some cool birds there. I never travel without my bird book and binos.
