Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
If you get the chance, stop by the visitor’s center at Jamestown in the next month. We just saw the John White pictures today. Unbelievable detail for the time that they were painted! This is the last place they will be too, before going back to the British Museum.
We have discussed them on this forum before, but I did not know how extensive his new world paintings were. He documented many, many flora and fauna here, some of which is now endangered. Also, it is interesting – he also painted early British Picts and made them out to be more savage than his paintings of early native Americans. He was trying to get people to settle in this country, so it is also an early example of advertising.
