Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
OK I have done a lot of digging and have found my Jones’ come down from Samuel Jones(est. birth date of 1730) listed as living in and selling land in Hampshire Co. WV. He is listed as having a father John Jones which has an estimated birth date around 1700. THere is listed a John Jones that bought land on the north end of the Nottoway River. I aslo see that there was a man by the name Richard Jones that was born In Pringe George Cty. He was an Indian Trader, He accumulated a lot of land and had 22 slaves when He died in 1747. Is it possible or likely that my Jones’ could have originated from here? Richard had land on the north end of the nottoway as well and has many Jones’ listed as accquiring adj. properties. Richard was given his title as Indian Trader By GOv. Spotswood. He is said to have “amassed a fortune” in trade for beaver skins with the Indians. Any thoughts?
