May 1, 2006 at 3:39 am #20894The following is Kamama’s earlier post in another. I’m putting it here so that it can all stay together,
Hello, I am not quit sure how to start this about me. I guess at the beginning. I grew up on the side of the woods in northern Indiana. I learned of herbs from my grandmother and very good friends. My father taught me of the nature of things.
My grandmother told me of the culture of his people at the age of 11. She had vereything correct. I am now 43 and I still have not found the line (s) of his family. I have prayed very often to know. Some years back I was given a very spirtual thing or event that I would like to share, and maybe someone out there could help me more. I seen my grandfather after he passed away. I went to him. All my life as a little girl, I grew up with his alcoholic meaness, and i was afraid of him. He must have loved me. For this reason, when I met him he gave me a greeting that is Algonquin (sp) or Cherokee respectivly. He did so by bending his arms at the elbows, extending his arms straight out to me, and I knew, somehow, to do the same. He clutched the tops of my arms up to the bends, and I clutched his arms up to the elbows. Hope that makes sense.
I asked a professor and a history teacher about this greeting. I was told that it was Algonquin or Cherokee. The greeting derived to the handshake.
My uncle told me when I was quit young that we have blackfoot/feet respectivly. I never had of the Blackfoot down south, all I knew was the northern tribe.
As a child I grew up around good Chippawea friends. We didnt know each other was different, because we were dark. My father, brother and I are all lactose, my mom is of European desent, so she is safe from that.
I have danced tradtional for many years. I was like to find my family though. I will have to put on the board, and see if anyone can help me.
My husbands g g grandfather is on the 1896 Cherokee Application roll. Whats does that mean?
Are any of the Backfeet on any of the rolls? Or do they have their own rolls?
Hope to hear from someone maybe I can find some friends and maybe my family, Thank you.

May 1, 2006 at 3:39 am #20895Richard Haithcock, a Saponi researcher in Ohio, and a leader of an Ohio Saponi band, believes the Tuttle name to be Tutelo. I don’t know what his sources for this are, but Richard’s leads are frequently very useful. Jones is a common name among Saponi/Tutelo descended families. Haven’t we seen the Barnes name come up around here?
Linda if you use the search button in the upper right and search on your names one at a time, you’ll be able to locate other forum members with the same names.
Also, see my article at http://www.saponitown.com/Blackfoot.htm to see what we’ve come up with in our research on the Blackfoot ID.
May 1, 2006 at 3:39 am #20920Thank you very much Linda. I hope that I can find my family. I know they can not be very far, as apart to the way my grandfather greeted me, and so many characteristics we share (my father, my brother and myself). Upon meeting my husbands brother for the first time 7 yrs ago, he thought I was a Latino mix.
Thank you again.
