Vance!!!
You say you had a 11 of 12 Markers on Joshua born 7-25-1725..and Sarah Cook born 12-18-1724.
I don’t know where to start but this Joshua Hawkins, son of Michael Hawkins and Agnes Eaton..Father of Michael, Edward. born abt 1660 Prince George co Va. Edward and John are brothers..John younger, marries Martha unknown…one son Matthew marries Sarah Pinkethman…son Thomas Hawkins marries Mary Howard. Pinkethman or Pinckney..one born in 1728/29 has a son Thomas Pinkethman Hawkins who marries Lucy Colbert born 1778 NC..he dies in Alabama. Joshua has a son Pinckney born 1757..Joshua has William EAton Hawkins..marries Catherine BOLLING. cont
October 6, 2005 at 7:26 pm #16835Joshua Hawkins then, parents Michael Hawkins and Agnes Eaton. Edward is Michaels father..Edward’s father John and ? John born 2-13-1594? St. STephens? Where is St. Stephens?
Anyway, If Edward and John are brothers, then the family of matthew, John’s son marries into the Howards and Allens. and the Cooks. And they get real intertwined. The Wm. Howard and Sarah Hawkins..child Francis Howard marries Ann Eleanor Allen..child Henry Groves Howard marries Hannah Allen, daughter of William Hunt Allen and Frances Grant..Wm brother to my Joseph..and the Mary howard of this line to Thomas Hawkins..and more to sort but there is a connection to the Joshua b 1725 and these Hawkins’s, Howard, Allen, Cook lines..Sue J
I’m leaving tomorrow for Ky. until Sun nt. with no access to computer..

October 6, 2005 at 7:26 pm #16845Sue, I was just about to post something I just saw and come here and see what you wrote — that is real interesting. I’ gonna look into that if I can — I don’t have a subscription to ancestry any mor so I can’t look things up as I once did. Thank you so much for looking into this.
A family we found we were related to has their earliest known Hawkins as William H. HAWKINS, Birth: 10 May 1771 in Halifax Co., Virginia Death: in St. Louis Co., Missouri. By looking at when the children of this family were born, they were in NC by 1804, in Ky by 1811 and in Mo by 1815, same year my Waylands went to Arkansas. They tell me they had relatives in Alabama but the link I was sent ( http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:3017483&id=I577284400) doesn’t show them.
Sue, I knew there had to be an Allen connection because grandpa was Noah Allen Hawkins, and his father was Joshua Allen Hawkins. Interesting you mention a Colbert — both Colbert and Allen are really important Chickasaw surnames. I have never known why Noah came notrh from Texas to met and marry my grandma whose parents were living in the Chickasaw Nation.
I’ve seen that name “Pinkney Hawkins” somewhere. Here is my Hawkins family that we know — just thought I’d post it again.
Joshua A. Hawkins b. @ 1837 Alabama, d. 1-8-1892, m. Mary Ann Elizabeth BYRUM b. Dec. 1849 Bertie Co., N. C. (Father Edward Byrum, mother Mary, brother Starkey E. b. @ 1847, Job Gregory b. @ 1822 living in household 1850 census). Census says “comment:Idiot” by Job’s name, so he might have been mentally disabled. We think therefore Mary’s mother might have been a Gregory as they were caring for Job. There are many Gregory’s in Bertie County, NC, also.
I don’t know where Joshua and Mary met. He was a Confederate soldier so he might have gone to NC as a soldier, or maybe both families went to Texas and they met there — I just don’t know. Maybe her family moved to Alabama?????
Joshua had brothers William, John, Tom, and sister Mary according to what we were told was once written in a Bible that no longer exists.
Joshua is on 1860 (single) and 1880 (married) census of Robertson County, Tx. He died in 1892 in Milam County, Tx. They probably married about 1867 or thereabout. Probably in Texas. We’re also found in Williamson and Falls County.
Children of Joshua Hawkins and Mary Byrum :
James August b. @ 1868 Tx.,
William Edward b. @ 1870 Tx.,
Charles Wesley b. 8-1871 Tx.,
Henry Benjamin b. @ 1874 Tx.,
Noah Allen (m. Lona C. Richey) b. 12-1877 Tx. d. 1953 Eloy, Az.,
Laura Gene b. @ 1880 Tx. ,
Minnie Mary (m. Henry Cato) b. 4-26-1884 Tx.,
Jack Hawkins b. 5-1886 Tx.,
Cora Rose (m. Fred Springer b. 1-1890 Tx.,
Dora Daisy (m. R. Ben Springer) b. 1-1890 Tx.
Family lived Robertson Co., Milam Co., Tx., also Williamson and Falls Co., Tx.

October 6, 2005 at 7:26 pm #16846Above it lists 1880 Robertson Co.,Tx census and says
Name: Joshua A. Hawkins
Age: 45
Estimated birth year:

Home in 1880: Robertson, Texas
Marital status: Married

Mother’s birthplace: AL
So Josh says both his parents were born in Alabama, meaning his parents were in Alabama by at least 1815. There might be a record of their marriage in “Early Alabama Marriages”. I didn’t realize Joshes mother was born in Alabama until just now — don’t know why I didn’t think about that before.
Mary E. Hawkins

October 6, 2005 at 7:26 pm #16847Sue, that said that e had a common ancestor between 2 and 7 hundred (approx) years ago DNA received from someone who said they could trace their ancestry back to Joshua Hawkins and Sarah Cook.
That either means that one marker deviated recently and we are closer to them — meaning if we broke from them 200 years ago then maybe we are descended form Josh and Sarah. They DID have ancestors who went to Alabama, right? Then since we came from there that is very possible — but that could all be a coincidence and we might be descended from the same Hawkins in 1500 anno domini somewhere in England/Scotland . . . But we DO have a common male ancestor, somewhere back in time with them.

October 6, 2005 at 7:26 pm #16873Vance,
I’m fairly confused by now. Just got back last night from Ky. and just read your posts. I’m going to keep looking and see what else can be found. I hope sometime we’ll be able to find your Joshua Allen Hawkins parents. Born in Alabama? That should help. Sue J
October 6, 2005 at 7:26 pm #16879Sue, I truly think I have searched every Hawkins in the state of Alabama and have not found anything.
I think either
i.] the census records are wrong and Josh was not from Alabama
or
ii.] my ancestors are not on the census records.
Othrwise I am at a loss . . .
