Hello All, we are researching an ancestor named Joshua Palmer and I have found conflicting information on him on Ancestry. Some record show him as being born in Maine but others say he was born in Colony, Laurel, KY. I have read that his daughter Saphronia or Sophia was Native American, which by definition makes at least one of her parents Native as well.
He was married to Jane Jeane Rogers whose lineage is pretty well established and I don’t believe contained any native bloodlines.
His date of birth remains the same at Oct 30th 1769. I surmised that if he was from Kentucky he may have been Cherokee but after finding your site I realize other possibilities are to be looked at.
Thanks for any and all guidance.

August 16, 2010 at 4:38 pm #35289Have you tried using our search feature for Palmer and Kentucky. The name’s come up a lot. I believe the Palmers of Palmer’s Point on the VA/NC border on Kerr Lake have Saponi ancestry. Descendants have come forward reporting Indians in the family. There’s a possibility of a tie to Kentucky, since we do know of migrations of Saponi descendants moving into Appalachia, so you can put it on your list of possibilities. That’s an early date, and an interesting question — when are some of the earliest dates of migrations of Saponi descendants into Appalachia. My guess, search here on the Collins name, that may bring up something.
August 16, 2010 at 4:38 pm #35303Hi Linda, I did try that and got a few hits but nothing conclusive. Couldn’t find anything on line about the genealogy of those specific Palmers. I have put out a few posts on Palmer message forums and have found a few others looking for the same Joshua so fingers crossed and I remain open. Thanks for your help! -Ray
