Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Hello. I am trying to find out if the is a relationship between our family and the Melton’s Bluff indians. My grandfathers name was Leonard Snow Melton. I have found it spelled Lenerd and Linard. Our family has always lived in the Florence, Muscle Shoals, Al and Iron City, Tn area. His date of birth is 9/02/1891, his mother’s name may be Sarah (?). This is my father’s side, on my mother’s side my grandmother was Black Dutch. Any help woud be very welcome.
Thanks Kathy Melton

Kathy,
I see Leonard Snow Melton buried in Mt. Tabor cemetery in Lauderdale co Al. Also a Bessie Melton. This is from the Lauderdale co Al genweb. But if you do a search with the search feature here on the forum, type in Meltons bluff…..see the post by Karen Stewart. Are these your people too? Saj

The Leonard Snow Melton that is buried in Mt. Tabor cemetery is my grandfather. His wife Bessie and her parents George and Betty Lard are also buried there.
The Meltons posted by Karen Stewart are not related as far as I know. Snow was born out of wedlock, his mother later married a Mcgee and he has a half brother named Lester Mcgee. I have a cousin thinks Snow’s mother married Joseph S Mcgee.
I did find a draft card for Snow but that is about all I can find.
Thanks for the help
Kathy
