Maecyn Elizabeth Deans welcomed the world with a strong pair of lungs at 9:11pm on 9-9-08.
8 pounds 1 ounce and 20 1/2 inches long.
The proud grandma will have details tomorrow.
She is one cutie…with dark curly hair, long fingers, and long toes. Mom and baby are both doing fine…after a long and stressful delivery ending in a C-section. Will be glad to send a picture to those that I might have missed on my email list.
Can’t wait to take her in the circle and welcome her into our NA family….may be Town Creek.

Congrat’s Grams and Gramps. I know how these things make us proud. Probably more so than the parents themselves. They are just too tired and not quite sure of all that is ahead of them. I’ll keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks…yep, she may be a jingle dress dancer. I know she has already healed several hearts that were hurt from previous relationships gone bad where babies and ex-s were involved.
Yes, it seems with each grandbaby comes the reassurance that life does go on. For my SIL, this is his second child…he had the first one when he was just 19 (young and foolish as he puts it), so he has a sense of what is going on, but, for my daughter it is her first. So together they make a good team to provide what Maecyn needs.
And the other thing is the love that they share will provide a stable environment for her upbringing…and that they recognize that it takes a village to raise a child…and do not deny her family and friends the joy of being around Maecyn. They accept the NA heritage in our families and plan to raise her with all the knowledge that goes with it. Thanks for all the prayers……..that’s what makes us a family here.

She is truely blessed to be part of this new generation that will be raised with full knowledge and acceptance of her native heritage. Many on this online community had it hidden from them, and only learned about their heritage as adults.
That is basically true for my life. I was raised knowing we were NDN, BUT, we were not to speak of it outside of our family get togethers. You must understand that here in MO we are very close to OK. MO had laws which outlawed NDNs in MO. My grandparents and G-Aunts/Uncles generation were still under the opinion that we could be deported.
Today my generation is speaking out about our NDNism and this is raising quite an uproar in the OK territory about all these new NDNs.
Cherosage, you’re in good company. We knew we were “part” NDN, since childhood. Just didn’t realize that it wasn’t just my Dad’s family.
My parents were children in Virginia when Walter Plecker got rid of most Indian folks with the stroke of a pen.
Dreaminghawk let me borrow an interesting book about Amherst County. What really grabbed me was that some of the Monacans interviewed hadn’t known what tribe they came from. Here were these people living in a community, being discrimnated against, rediculed, treated like dirt for who/what they were…yet some of them didn’t have any more idea what tribe they were than the average genealogy buff with a Native in the wood pile.

My Dad grew up in Patrick Co., Va and he use to tell me that you didn’t mention that you were Native American. I really believe that’s why Grandpa Frank changed the spelling of our last name. Bouldin was the name of a politician, so no one thought of it as Native American. In Richmond it wasn’t mentioned at all, I didn’t even know until we moved to NC and Granny told me. I would mention it in school and get laughed at, so I didn’t mention it much. We had some Goins in school and they always kept to themselves and everyone let them. I shiver at the thought of some of the mean things my “friends” would say about them. I didn’t say anything, but I didn’t take up for them either. Now I’m ashamed of myself for just listening. I’m glad now that you can talk about it and be proud of it. I just hope I can continue to learn all of the things that I’m sure my great grandparents knew.;)
