Head Man Dancer: Keith Anderson
Drums and head lady were TBA.
Admission fee: $5, adults and children 3-12 and Seniors 62+ are $3

My personal suggestion is to get there early, parking spaces fill up quickly and the walk can be rather long. Make sure you go by the Visitor Center/Museum and see the stuff they have in there…very interesting. And be prepared for the portajohns. The bathroom in the visitor center is closed during the pow wow. Make sure you eat an Indian taco from the Oxendine family…..and they have good lemonade, too.

Was just looking at the info for this at powwows.com.
Says head lady is Debra Moore and Host Drum is STONEY CREEK!!
Woo-hoo!
April 15, 2008 at 3:00 pm #31402Is Stoney Creek a good drum, and if so do they have CDs? They northern or southern style? I’m asking because I’d like to get some good east coast powwow music to listen to. I had several CDs, but they got stolen last year. I know a lot of drums just sell CDs at powwows, I would have to order one through the mail of course.
April 15, 2008 at 3:00 pm #31406Tanya….. we will see if we can get you a care package together of some eastern drumming and an unreleased cd of a terrific flutist. The cd is called Tooty Flutey. 😉

Do you need replacement CDs for those we sent to you? If so, that is no problem. Oh, and I am collecting more pics for you, too. Any plans on being in NC this summer???

April 15, 2008 at 3:00 pm #31414Aww, shucks, Dreaminghawk. :~D
Oh, and what 1 Optimistic said. Stoney Creek is an awesome drum! Mostly Haliwa-Saponi & Lumbee, but with some folks from other tribes, too. I hope they are really gonna be there.
Here, take a listen:

“Red Sons” is one of my faves that is stuck in my head most of the time. Not understanding the words does not prevent that, hehe.
April 15, 2008 at 3:00 pm #31420Good sounding group, I can dance to that! And they use Tutelo, nice.
April 15, 2008 at 3:00 pm #31442The spirits are always strong at the Clarksville powwow. This year was no exception. The dance surface is grass, all dancers are welcome, the drums are always awesome (4 drums this year), the MC was one of the best and the weather was beautiful. It don’t get no better.
April 15, 2008 at 3:00 pm #31453It was good to see many of our friends….and to meet some of the folks from here. Enjoyed the music of Secret Hill, Red Earth, and Many Nations…and a new drum, Buffalo Junction. Mr. Marvin Burnette is an excellent emcee….telling all about our culture and things that the public will see and experience. There were quite a few vendors as well….and the Indian tacos and stuff were awesome as usual.
But, the most special part of the day was when the head dancer brushed the drum with his eagle feathers……..
Aho
