Hello All…
I am new on board here. I have copied & pasted what was started in the “Welcome” forum in hopes that I can trace my family roots back to the Blackfoot hertiage. So here is the info for myself and a friend Franklin…
Ok, here is what I know…
Martina Molock
DOB: April 12, 1888, Baltimore, Maryland
Died: Dec. 20, 1961 in Baltimore. Maryland, Buried in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Glen Burnie, MD..
Married William Cornish
Born 1887. No month or date given or place of birth – unknown.
Died: Sept. 29, 1937.
They lived at 528 W. Lee Street, Balto., MD. and Lee & Amanda Davis lived next door to them and Idella lived 526 W. Lee Street as well.
To this union were born:
Idella Anna: DOB: 03/24/1902; died: 12/13/1976
Jessie: Birth yr. – 1907
Evelyn: DOB: 12/25/1910; died: 07/22/1980
Daniel: Birth yr. – 1912; died after 1920 in Balto., MD.
I had an Uncle Babe Richard which Grandmother Idella raised b/c Great-Grandmother Martina tried to kill. The story is that Uncle Babe Richard, AKA Kid Martinni, was born to an Italian man who Great-Grand would partner up with and drink with — ooops…
Uncle Babe Richard: DOB: July 10, 1918; died 12/14/2004 in Balto., MD…
Uncle Babe Richard was very athletic and did horizontal head stands against lamp posts. He was also a boxer. That’s how he got his nick name Kid Martini. He later was drafted in WWII as were my Dad and all his brothers and other men in our family.
I can tell you that Grandmother Idella’s husband, Richard Brown Sr. possibly came from the area you all have posted (Dorchester or parts near by). He later dwelled in Calvert County on a small farm that we use to go down to every summer. This is all the info I have, other then two photographs of Great-Grandmother Martina. I also have a picture of Martina’s kids at a young adult age…
I will post Franklin, my friend’s info as soon as he gives it to me but the surnames he gave me thus far are as follows:
Taylor
Alexander
Seward
Question: I read somewhere that Native American Indians named their children after places where they lived (i.e. Virginia, my mother’s middle name) and after nature. Is there any truth to this? Thanks alot!

June 3, 2005 at 3:58 pm #15096Update…
I just signed up for Ancestry.com (again)…I found some info and I believe this is Martina’s parents, Richard & Ellen Molock on Hill Street in a 1900 census. Martina is listed as Cornish and William Cornish is also in what appears to be a lot of people living there as well. I got confirmation from an elder cousin who remembers that they lived on Hill Street and then moved to Greene Street where there wasn’t that many people in their home. The cousin said she remembers talk of Blackfoot being told to her. This is a great start and I will be sharing more….
Spoke with my friend Franklin and found out his Grandmother’s was a Fannie Kinchen in Brunswick, VA. I found them listed in a 1930 census. He has an 88 year old Aunt (Fannie Kinchen) who told him that there were 16 children. The 1930 census has listed the following
Benjamin & Fannie (husband & wife)
Children: Major, Robert, Waverly, Herman, Benjamin and James.
Any jump start leads would be great. I will be conducting research in between dual diaper changes here — GRIN.
I’d be happy to share what I know or research ancestry.com if you don’t access to their website. Willing to work with all. Thanks for any imput.
June 3, 2005 at 3:58 pm #15098Adding & sharing for Franklin…
His people were mostly from Powellton, Brunswick, VA…other surnames:
Beasley
Alexander
Some other names
Fannie, Fannie W., and Lucy Beasley
Aunt Fannie (Beasley) Kinchen had 5 kids
Lucy Beasley is the mother of Ora Beasley who had 3 children.
Ora was the mother of Martha (Beasley) Alexander.
Franklin’s mother’s name is Doris Alexander (her married name). His father he believes was Robert Wade Davis who was in the Navy in Yorktown.
June 3, 2005 at 3:58 pm #15119Update on Franklin’s people…
I just spoke with him, and he is giving me more info, and hopefully something that might connect some dots for others out here…
First, let me ask if anyone knows anything about Beasley or Greene Towns? Franklin’s people were from or were raised in both these towns.

Adding to surname list:
Gibson
Mason
Ross
Grans
Manning
Taylor

Ok…
My friend stated that his cousin found their people listed in the Freeman’s Tribe list…
Manning
Grans
Alexander
Seward
He also mentioned that Cousin Goergia Taylor was full blood Indian. She was related to his Uncle’s mother (we aren’t sure of the spelling of her first name) but the husband’s name was Clarence Taylor. The wife’s name sounds something like Chloe but I know it’s not that…
Gr. Grandmother Ora married Charlie Ross; and to this union were born Aunt Bee (Beatrice)…I am not sure how these two fit in but my friend said there was also Martha and Alfred. I am not sure whose who here, eekkkeee — hair pulling time here….
Gr. Grandmother Ora was the matriarch in the family who kept everyone together.
I haven’t looked for these people yet in census, but oral history is nice to know b/c it could help some of us connect the dots on missing pieces.

You, in another part of this forum, talk about your family as being Tuscarora and Saponi. Where do you classify Mason? That is a name in my family.

Ok, you lost me with “Tuscarora & Saponi” so you’ll have to bring me up to par on these names. I spoke of “Blackfoot” in my family…
I’m still learning here — very green when it comes to Native American genealogy research.
On the Mason surname, this is in my friend Franklin’s family. He doesn’t have a computer (yet) so I am doing all his leg work relaying what he tells me. I can tell you that his people lived in Brunswick, Virginia. Have you heard of Beasley Town or Greene Town?
I can relay what you have or I can connect you via telphone number if this is something of interest to you.
June 3, 2005 at 3:58 pm #15125Mason…
Cousin Mabel Mason’s Mother’s name: Bessie Grans; father’s name: Robert Grans. My friend says they are all deceased.
Brunswick, VA…Valentine, VA and Lawrenceville, VA is where he said they lived.
Hope this helps!

Sorry, I probably got someone else’s post mixed up with yours. I was gone to a VW get-together and offline for a couple of days. As I caught up, I probably got mixed up in reading all the posts.
No, I have not heard of Greene Town. What is kind of funny, though, while Mason is not my direct line, she marries a grandson of a Green. A cousin of mine is in her direct line and remembers a photo with Mary Mason dressed as a native, although she does not really look it that much. Her children have the look, though, but then her husband is certainly mixed. His sister was my gggrandmother and she definitely looks native.
Anyway, thanks for the offer. I am not really investigating the Mason line directly. They are one of those names that seem to begin from no where in our family.

June 3, 2005 at 3:58 pm #15174On the original thread in the “Welcome” section, I did see where someone posted info on a Ellen Molock. Well, I found a 1900 census with Ellen Molock on it. They were in a a house with a lot of people including my Gr. Grandmother Martina (18 yrs.) & her husband Wm. Cornish (21 yrs.).
Ellen’s husband’s name: Richard Molock. It looks like there were the following Molock names:
David (20 yrs.)
Morris (18 yrs.)
Ethal (12 yrs.)
Richard Jr (9 yrs.)
Wm (1 yrs)
I can’t make out the others if they lived in 131 or 133 Hill Street. Confusing
June 3, 2005 at 3:58 pm #34997I am a Molock descendent from Dorchester County (Eastern shore MD) and a genealogist. I am very interested in researching the links between the Baltimore/Western shore family and the Eastern ones. My great grandfather was Thomas Molock, son of Levin Richard Molock. Thomas’ daughter Omar Molock Perry was my maternal grandmother. I am also interested in the Molock branch from Aireys, MD which descended from Caleb Molock. I would love to exchange/share information!

June 3, 2005 at 3:58 pm #35053Lindy Luu, I was reading back on some of your post. Back in June 2005 in a list of names beginning with Gibson, Mason, etc. you had the name Ross. Ross is in my family line entering in the “early” 1800’s. What do you know and possibility their location in regards to this family.
I also looked up your profile and saw “Jenny’s Pot”. I have a jar that looks very much like that one. Mine was supposedly made by the “Ross” ancestor. It appears to have begun with a round disc of clay then built up by the coil method. You can see the print of some of the coil although it was smoothed and then the top or lip was applied. It is close to a quart in size. I have been told possibility western Virginia and probably a canning jar. Would like to know about yours. Ed Yancey
