I’m not real comfortable with the kind of ‘coincidences’ we noted a couple of posts ago, especially when it hinges on census ages.
They are the only Moores there AND they have most of the names in there. I will not say that “these” are “yours”, but I do raise the caution that they may very well be yours and the census data is ‘way off’, not the people and location.
I’d tell you a story about Death Certificate “Informants” who should have known who their grandparents were – and mine did – but my G-Grandfather got it wrong about his father’s parents anyway – per the certificate he filled out AND my grandmother who knew ALL OF ‘EM, and who had nothing good to say about his “composure” on that day, although she did “understand” how that could happen, she adamantly did NOT “accept” the fact that he switched the identities “Of His Own GrandMothers!”. Man! We all heard about that For-Her-Ever-After. 🙂
I wouldn’t expect anyone to accept this as supporting ‘proof’ of my supposition at this level of circumstance, but txbell should be considering it for further research. “Death Certificates” aren’t all they’re cracked up to be – they can be right or wrong, but it’s too bad we don’t have additional data to support either side of this conjecture – then there wouldn’t be one 🙂 .

April 22, 2006 at 9:14 pm #21160I throughly agree, Bill. I’ve really looked at that data long and hard and you are right. Everything matches except the ages, and the wife’s name. Of course she could have been Ellenor Louise and called Lou for short…….LOL or Ellen could have been Lou’s sister, since they married 6 years after Fate was born. There is no mention of a daughter named Ellen in 1870……so she could be Fate’s half sister/cousin………….LOL
I suspect that the census was wrong, because I’m pretty sure of Fates age when he died (96) or maybe he was really only 86 and had lied about his age so long that he believed it. But he could have still been at home in 1870, since he didn’t marry until 1873.
Maybe I need to root around in Claiborne Co a little more.
April 22, 2006 at 9:14 pm #23332I’m still alive and still searching although not very actively……LOL
Bill, if you’re still around. I hear what you are saying about the Caliborne Co census. I intend to try to find out a little more (no pun intended) about this particular family.
As far as researching on the internet (which is all I have available) Grainger, Jefferson and Knox Counties are very dry when it come to finding information.
My grandfather Somon Luke Moore (born in 1893) always said he was born in Knoxville. His oldest sister was already married when the family moved to Texas and she stayed in Knoxville. So that may be another avenue.
Who knows???????
