Osiyo,
I am overjoyed to have found this site. It has been most interesting and informative. My name is OCIE GAIL, the first name is for my adoptive paternal grandmother, that was 1/2 Cherokee. She never spoke of her heritage, nor taught me any history of her family.
My maternal family originally lived in NC, TN, and VA before settling in SE Kentucky. Surnames are BROCK, SLOAN, BRUMMETT, ROARK, ASHER,and LYTTLE. Thru family history and years of research at various gen sites, I have linked my Cherokee roots to Chief Redbird (aka Aaron Brock) of Clay Co., Kentucky. My native blood runs down three lines, with the closest being my biological father, who was 1/4 Cherokee. My mother is 83 years old and a wealth of family history. I also have an aged great aunt, alive and well, whose father was the fifth generation descendant of Redbird’s.
Since I am new to this site, please be patient with me. My heart craves to learn more of my native heritage and to know my brothers and sisters from everywhere. I will be asking many questions.
Your Friend,
Ocie Gail

HI and welcome to the forum. I don’t have any of your names in my lines but I do love Sevier Co.TN. My family and I come there several times a year and we’re overdue at this point. Use the search feature and start “shakin’ the bushes. Good luck!

December 9, 2006 at 3:24 pm #24106Thanks Jim for your warm welcome to the forum. Yes, it is fun to live here in the Smokies, I enjoy sight seeing and taking my camera. I discover new places often that are beautiful and peaceful. Right now, the Winterfest is going on in the ajoining towns of Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and Sevierville.
Yours,
Ocie Gail
