Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
After more than 30 years searching for my father’s grandmother’s family, we found them in Jefferson County, Iowa. Apparently, Saul and Morning Dove Harding, their son Saul and his wife Catherine McCall left Virginia in the late 1820’s and were with my ggrandfather’s family in KY in the 1830’s. They apparently followed the Ohio river, stopping in Indiana before continuing on to southeastern Iowa.
My great-grandmother, Arena Harding married one John Vinson and gave birth to 2 daughters. He passed away just a few years later. She left her daughters with her parents and went to Missouri where she married my ggreat-grandfather and began their family together. I had tunnel vision, never considering the Harding family might have gone so far north as Iowa when she lived the majority of her life Missouri and Arkansas. The credit goes to God and to my nephew’s wife for finding this family. I was just along for the ride.
